How to create portal page level parameters in Oracle Portal

You create portal page level parameters to enable portal users to specify a parameter value that updates many Discoverer portlets at the same time. For example, when a portal user chooses January as the parameter value in Oracle Portal, you might want three Discoverer worksheets to be refreshed with data for January.

To create portal page level parameters, you map the generic Discoverer Portlet Parameter to a Portal Page Parameter.

Hint: Before you can create a portal page level parameter, you must map a worksheet parameter to it (for more information about mapping a worksheet parameter to a portal page level parameter, see "How to map worksheet parameters to generic Discoverer Portlet Parameters").

To create a portal page level parameter:

  1. Start an Internet browser.

  2. Display the portal page containing the Discoverer portlet that you want to edit.

  3. If you are not already logged in, click Login and enter your portal login details (i.e. your Single Sign-On details).

  4. Display the Build tab.

  5. On the resulting Portal Builder page, go to the Page Groups portlet.

  6. Under Edit Page, click the Browse Pages icon next to the Name field.

  7. In the resulting window, click Return Object next to the page you want to edit.

  8. Click the Edit button next to the Name field.

  9. In Edit mode, go to Page in the page toolbar, and click the Properties link.

  10. Display the Parameters tab.

  11. Use the Parameters page to create a new parameter.

  12. Click OK to save the parameter.

You can now map this parameter to worksheet parameters in Discoverer portlets (for more information, see "How to map worksheet parameters to generic Discoverer Portlet Parameters").
