7 Oracle Mail Release Notes

This chapter summarizes release note issues associated with Oracle Mail. This chapter contains the following sections:

This document was updated on October 7, 2005.

7.1 New in Oracle Mail

7.2 Known Limitations and Workarounds in Oracle Mail

Searches of Attachments in Different Character Sets

When you perform a search for attachment names, search behavior is determined by the character set used by the Oracle Mail server to build the search index. In other words, if the characters you are searching for are not found in the character set used by the Oracle Mail server to build the search index, the attachment will not be found.

Base Users with Multiple Mail IDs

Base users having multiple mail IDs cannot be managed from the centralized provisioning framework in Oracle Collaboration Suite 10g. Users that have multiple mail IDs cannot be managed from Oracle Delegated Administration Services, hence Oracle WebMail must be used to manage such users.

Sharing Public E-mail Folders with A Domain

Shared public e-mail folders available to an entire domain can be created using Oracle Connector for Outlook, only.

See Also:

"Creating Public Folders" in Appendix C of Oracle Mail Administrator's Guide for more information about creating shared folders

7.3 Known Issues in Oracle Mail

The following table lists known issues in Oracle Mail.

Table 7-1 Known Issues in Oracle Mail

Description Action Bug Number

Reconfirmation of an invitation to a distribution list fails if the reconfirmation is sent in Rich Text Format.

Use plain text to send reconfirmation of an invitation.

Oracle Discussions folders cannot be differentiated by case.

Do not use case to differentiate between folders.

Message recovery will not work until the Housekeeper is run.

Run the Housekeeper.

Success, Failure, and Delay preambles do not appear in DSN's even when set.

IMAP cannot handle nested folder names, that exceed 990 characters.

When oracle text indexing is enabled for an e-mail user, it breaks partial word searching against all e-mail header fields.

Do not enable Oracle text indexing if you want to perform partial word searching in e-mail headers.

When a filter is applied on Collaboration Suite Database from Policy pages(Administration > Policy > Application > Collaboration Suite Database > Configure Filter)The filter is not triggered on the messages in the database.

To fix this, the following parameter must be modified using Oracle Internet Directory Manager:

First, use the following command to find the value of the attribute "orclguid" of Virus Scrubber process on the Applications tier where the filter has been applied.

Note: The following is a single command line even though it is spread over multiple lines. Replace the italicized text with prompted values for your Applications tier.

ldapsearch -D "cn=orcladmin" -w password_for_"cn=orcladmin" -h ldap_server_host_name -p port_on_which_ldap_server_listens -b"cn=middle_tier_host_name:um_system:vs,cn=mailProcessConfig,cn=eMailServer,cn=middletier_oracle_home_path,cn=middle_tier_host_name,cn=Computers,cn=OracleContext"-s one "objectclass=*" orclGuid

Using Oracle Internet Directory Manager, navigate to the following entry:

Replace the value in the attribute orclmailprocfilterschedule with msg, and click Apply.

DAS displays "Default" even when no archiving policy exists.

An application error in the Apply Filter Page contains the following behavior:

Login to Oracle WebMail -> Administration -> Policy -> Filter Application. When clicking Outgoing / Local / database link in filter application page, or when unapplying a filter from a direction the following error occurs:

"Application Error - An internal error occurred; please notify the system administrator"

Ensure that there is exactly one instance for that server before applying filter.

The number of lists for which a user is a member is displayed even when a search if performed by an individual with insufficient privileges to view that information. Because the searcher may not have the sufficient privileges to view all the lists for which a user is a member, there is a difference in the number of lists actually displayed to the count shown on the table.

Under heavy load, number of database connections from the Oracle Web Access client might be very high.

You can change the database connection pool scheme used by the application to a fixed scheme by setting the property oracle.mail.sdk.esmail.cache_scheme=2. The maximum number of connections can then be set by the property oracle.mail.sdk.esmail.connpool_max_limit. With the fixed scheme, the number of database connections from the Oracle Web Access client to the database will never exceed the maximum limit specified, but this might degrade the performance of the client significantly.

In Oracle Discussions, the search results page displays the message content type in the body of the message.

After a user is deprovisioned, changing the state of the user from inactive to active will not reprovision the user.

To reprovision the user, an administrator must use Oracle Delegated Administration Services.

SMTP Inbound dumps for DLs when multiple mailstore message insert mode is auto

Enable submit mode or use default insert mode RoundRobin.

Message received date is modified after executing backup and restore procedure.

Body of messages sent in HTML format do not display in Oracle WebMail.

View HTML format messages through Outlook.

Spam control Reject Reasons are displayed partially when there is a carriage return.

The Reject Reason after first carriage return is not displayed by Oracle WebMail.

Use a single line for the spam error rejection reason value.

Deleting an NNTP server peer will cause all available peers to become current peers.

'Include Complete Error Message in DSN' parameter in SMTP Inbound and Outbound Server DSN Parameters appears as True, even if set to False.

Public folders cannot be opened by Oracle WebMail or the Oracle Web Access client.

Open public folders with standard IMAP client.

Part of message headers sent by the List Server will appear in the message body.

7.4 Globalization Issues in Oracle Mail

The following table lists Oracle Mail globalization issues.

Table 7-2 Globalization Issues in Oracle Mail

Description Action Bug Number

Using Outlook, variants of ISO-2022-JP character set encoding corrupts message headers and renders message unreadable.

Traditional Chinese index entries in the Oracle WebMail administrator help page are displayed incorrectly with mixed Traditional Chinese characters and English words.

DSN mail is not translated in the language option set in Collaboration Suite Control page. Subject and body part of the message is in English.

  1. Currently in Oracle Internet Directory orclmailsmtpdsndefaultlang attribute is set in IANA language code. This should be changed to equivalent Oracle NLS Language code.

  2. The orclmailsmtpdsndefaultlang attribute can be set for smtp_in, smtp_out, list servers.

  3. Find the equivalent Oracle NLS Language code to be used from Bug No 4400869 and using the OID Manager and change the orclmailsmtpdsndefaultlang attribute.

  4. The orclmailsmtpdsndefaultlang attribute can be found in the entries having the following DNs:

    cn=<middle tier host name>:um_system:<server name>,cn=mailProcessConfig,cn=EMailServer,

    cn=<Oracle Home>,cn=<middle tier host name>,cn=Computers,cn=OracleContext

    Where replace:

  • middle tier host name - name of the middle tier (Applications tier)

  • Oracle Home - Oracle home path

  • Server name - smtp_in / smtp_out / list servers

The subscription DSN message sent by an administrator is garbled.

To prevent this problem, the distribution list administrator should add members by invitation.

Japanese attachments sent from Oracle Web Access Client are corrupted in Oracle WebMail, Oracle Web Access Client, and Outlook.

oesbkp does not successfully restore non-ascii rules.

7.5 Documentation Issues in Oracle Mail

The following table lists Oracle Mail documentation issues:

Table 7-3 Documentation Issues in Oracle Mail

Description Action Bug Number

In situations where there is more than one Collaboration Suite Database, you must write an e-mail policy plug-in to create a user using Oracle Directory Integration and Provisioning in the second (not the default) Collaboration Suite Database. Instructions for writing the e-mail policy plug-in are not provided in the Oracle Mail Administrator's Guide.

Instructions in the Oracle Mail Administrator's Guide for creating server-side rules with oesrl should say active = "no" instead of visible = "no". The text should read as follows:

Rules can be set as inactive without physically deleting them by setting active="no". Also, if an administrator has to force an end-user to use a particular rule, it is possible to hide a rule from the Oracle WebMail client by setting active="no".

In the Oracle Mail Application Developer's Guide, the sample code should be modified as follows:

#include "esefif.h" should be replaced with #include <stdlib.h> on line 23 and calloc(sizeof(dummy_gcx)) should be replaced with calloc(1,sizeof(dummy_gcx)) on line 95.

The default number for IMAP Spam Maximum Flood Count parameter should be 40, not 10000.

IMAP parameter Allow Clear Text Login description wrong

Correct description:

If True, enables the LOGIN command and SASL authentication mechanisms, PLAIN and LOGIN, that transmit the password in plain text. If False, SASL authentication must be enabled or the Support STARTTLS Command parameter must be set to True in order to log into the IMAP server and prevent password snooping.
