Configuring the Siebel Gateway Name Server

Complete the steps as follows to configure the Siebel Gateway Name Server for operation.

To configure the Siebel Gateway Name Server

  1. If necessary, start the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard. Otherwise, proceed to Step 2.

It is generally assumed that you are using the Configuration Wizard directly after installation. However, if you exited the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard after installation, relaunch it, using one of the methods described in Launching the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard.

The Clustering Configuration for Siebel Gateway Name Server screen appears.

  2. If you are planning to configure the Siebel Gateway Name Server as part of a cluster, select the Yes check box, and click Next. The wizard displays a message that the Siebel Gateway Name Server Windows service (gtwyns) must be started manually when running in clustered mode. Click OK, then proceed to Step 7.

If you are not clustering the Siebel Gateway Name Server, click Next and proceed to Step 3.

  3. On the Windows User Account screen, type the following information, and click Next.

Windows User Account. Type the Windows user account name, preceded by the domain name and a backslash; for example, HQ\username. (This value should be the account name created to run this service.) If the account is a local account, specify the machine name instead of the domain name.

Windows User Account Password. Type the password for the Windows account you specified.

Windows User Account Password (confirm). Retype the password to confirm it.

NOTE:  If this account does not have Service Owner privileges, the configuration wizard prompts you to add them. In this case, click OK and the utility adds the privileges automatically.

The Gateway Name Server Listening Port screen appears.

  4. Accept the default port number on which the Siebel Gateway Name Server should listen (2320), or type an alternate port number (if 2320 is used by another application), and click Next.

For more information about port numbers and Siebel Gateway Name Server, see Siebel Gateway Name Server Installation Requirements.

If you specified in Step 2 that you are configuring the Siebel Gateway Name Server as part of a cluster, go to Step 7.

If you did not specify that you are configuring the Siebel Gateway Name Server for clustering, the Configure System Service for Automatic Start screen appears.

  5. Configure the Siebel Gateway Name Server service (gtwyns) in either of the following ways:
    • Click Next to accept the default setting to start the Siebel Gateway Name Server automatically whenever the Windows operating system starts up.
    • To start the service manually each time the Windows operating system starts up, clear the check box, then click Next.

NOTE:  The Siebel Gateway Name Server service must be running before any Siebel Server in the Enterprise can be started. If you do not set the Siebel Gateway Name Server to start automatically, you must start it manually each time you restart your machine.

The Start the Siebel Gateway Name Server Now screen appears.

  6. Configure the Siebel Gateway Name Server service in either of the following ways:
    • Click Next to accept the default to start the Siebel Gateway Name Server now (after configuration is complete).
    • If you will start the service manually after configuration, clear the check box, then click Next.

NOTE:  If you selected the option to install all server products at once, you must make sure that the Siebel Gateway Name Server has started before you configure the Siebel Server.

  7. Click Next to review the configuration values you entered on the previous Configuration Wizard screens. If you are satisfied, click Finish.

NOTE:  If you need to change any values, use the Previous and Next buttons to access the screens on which to change entries, and then to return to this screen.

When the configuration activities are over, a message box appears with the text:

The configuration changes were applied successfully.

  8. Click OK.
  9. Click Finish.

If you would like to view events that occurred during the installation, you can access the log generated by the installer at SIEBEL_ROOT\log.txt or the log generated by the Siebel application under SIEBEL_ROOT\gtwysrvr\LOG.
