About ADM, Siebel Management Server, and Diagnostic Tool

The Siebel Management Server and Siebel Management Agents are Siebel Business Application infrastructure components used to host both the Application Deployment Manager (ADM) feature and the Siebel Diagnostic Tool. They provide a framework for the functionality of ADM and the Siebel Diagnostic Tool. Siebel Management Server and Siebel Management Agents are not unique or exclusive to either feature.

You can use ADM to target multiple Siebel Enterprise Servers either with the Siebel Diagnostic Tool installed or without. ADM does not require Diagnostic Tool to operate. The Siebel Management Server and Siebel Management Agent components that you install and use are based on your business requirements, for example, whether the environment is used for development, testing, or production.

At the installation of the Siebel Management Server, specific configurations are required at that time if you are using the ADM functionality. For more information on the installation of the Siebel Management Server and Siebel Management Agents, see About the ADM Framework Installation. For information about postinstallation configurations necessary for ADM, see Process of Configuring the ADM Framework after Installing Siebel Management Server and Siebel Management Agent. For more information on the Siebel Diagnostic Tool and its use of the Siebel Management Server, see Siebel System Monitoring and Diagnostics Guide.
