Basic Search Retrieval

Basic Search allows you to perform full text searches using Boolean operators. Boolean operators allow you to create a more precise query.

Single Term Search

This search technique allows you to enter a single keyword, and receive results based on that term. For example, if you enter the word Siebel, results that contain the word Siebel are returned.

Multiple Term Search

This search technique allows you to enter two or more keywords. The implicit Search Term Separator is AND. For example, if you enter the text performance tuning, it is executed as performance AND tuning. Only results that contain all search terms are returned.

Phrase Searches

This search technique allows you to conduct a search for records where a chosen phrase is contained. For example, if you enter the phrase "computer science" (quotes included) records containing the word computer followed by a space and then the word science are returned.

Wildcard Searches

This search technique allows you to find pages containing words similar to a given word. You use the wildcard character either to represent a single character, or an optional sequence of characters. For example, if you enter comput*, the search returns words that have the same prefix comput, such as computer, computing, and so on.

Special Character Searches

This search technique retrieves special characters other than those facilitated by wildcard searches. For example, if you search for the word on?line, the search returns matches to on line, on-line, on;line and on.line.

Searching Logical Collections

The user may choose from a number of categories listed in the Look In list against which they can search. Multiple search categories can be grouped in a single logical collection, for simultaneous searching. Logical collections are defined in the Search Indices Parent Category View of the Search Administration UI. For information on defining logical collections, see Creating a Logical Collection.

Previewing Search Results

When the Preview option in the Search Center is invoked, a database record is opened in a popup window allowing users to view the record without changing their current application context. External files are opened and presented in their native application.

Setting the Customer Dashboard

Employees can update the open dashboard with the selected search result.

Sorting Search Results

After obtaining results of a search, the user may sort the results by relevance, data source, result type or date.

Refining Results Using Automated Keywords

Dynamic keywords are generated by Oracle Secure Enterprise Search, and are displayed in the search results applet. After obtaining results of a search, the user may further refine the results based on dynamically generated keywords. The selected keyword is processed with the previous search criteria in a Boolean AND operation.

Saving Search Queries

The search criteria can be saved for re-use. Saved searches are listed in the Recent Saved Searches applet in the Search Center.
