Setting Up Siebel eCollaboration

The primary components of a Siebel eCollaboration implementation are:

  • Siebel eCollaboration server
  • Macromedia (Allaire) JRun, a servlet engine
  • Web server, including Siebel Web Engine
  • Siebel server, including the object manager used by eCollaboration

These components can reside on multiple machines in any combination that adheres to the following requirements:

  • The Siebel eCollaboration server and Siebel Web Engine must reside on different machines.
  • The Siebel eCollaboration server and JRun must reside on the same machines.

NOTE:  If you use eCollaboration for helping your customers who are outside of your firewall, then you must place the eCollaboration server between your external and internal firewalls. If you use eCollaboration to help your employees or individuals who have access to your intranet, then you can place the eCollaboration server inside of your internal firewall.

Siebel eCollaboration is typically administered through a Siebel application such as Siebel Call Center or Siebel Service. Web site visitors typically request Web collaboration sessions through Siebel customer applications such as Siebel eService.

A typical implementation of Siebel eCollaboration also includes the following components:

  • Siebel Communications Server, including the communications toolbar
  • Siebel Universal Queuing for routing Web call requests
  • CTI middleware, in implementations that use computer telephony
