Creating a News Story (End User)


The Siebel Group News module allows organizations to publish news stories in one of the following formats:

  • Top Story. News published to this section appears as a large abstract with a large graphic and a link to the full story.
  • Feature Articles. News published to this section appears as a small abstract with a small graphic and a link to the full story.
  • Today's Headlines. News published to this section appears as a link to the full story.
  • My News. News published to this section appears as an abstract with a small graphic and a link to the full story.
  • News Archive. News published to this section appears as a small abstract with a small graphic and a link to the full story. In the News Archive form, end users can query for articles based on user-specified search criterion.

Authors can publish news in the Top Story, Feature Articles and Today's Headlines sections on the Home Page or on any of the microsite pages. The My News and News Archive sections are located on the myPage.

Importing a News Story

To create a news story

  1. From the application-level menu, choose Navigate > Site Map > Group News Authoring > News Inbox.
  2. From the News Stories list, click the More Info view tab, and in the ERM Group News Item form click New.
  3. In the new record, complete the fields.

    The sections in the Information form are numbered according to the logical task flow. For example, in Section 1, the author defines the headline and byline for the new story.

    The following table describes the fields in the Information form.

    Approver Name

    The approver field is automatically populated when there is an approver specified by the content path. The user sees the current pending approver.

    Author

    The name of the author. This field defaults to the current user and is not visible to news story readers.

    By-Line

    The byline for the story, as it appears to readers.

    Content Path

    The content path associated with the news story.

    Content Type

    The priority of the news story. The content type can be used internally to help categorize news stories by priority level. The content type does not affect the appearance of the news story to readers.

    Department

    The department of the author or news story.

    Go-Live Date

    The date on which the content is activated. This field defaults to the current date and time. The value in this field is also used in combination with the content path Start Day and End Day values to further define the period that content becomes active.

    Headline

    The headline for the news story, as it appears to readers.

    Name

    The name for the news story. The name is not visible to readers.

    Region

    The region of the author or news story.
