Example: Process for Creating a New Barcode Definition for the Service Handheld Application


You can define new one-dimensional barcodes in the Barcode Administration views. To define a new barcode, you need to create a new barcode definition in the Barcode list, then create corresponding records in the Barcode Item list to define data elements within the barcode.

To create a new barcode definition, complete the following procedures:

To create a new barcode definition for Siebel Service Handheld

  1. From the application level menu, select Navigate > Site Map > Administration-Mobile > Barcode Administration.
  2. Click New, then fill in the necessary fields.

    The following table describes the fields in the Barcodes list.

  3. In the Barcode Item list, add a new record to identify how data will be parsed from the barcode.

  4. (This step for Siebel Industry Applications only.) From the application level menu, select Navigate > Site Map > Administration-Mobile > Application Administration.
  5. (This step for Siebel Industry Applications only.) In the Application Administration view, select "Siebel Service for CE."
  6. (This step for Siebel Industry Applications only.) Click the Settings view tab, and make sure the parent record is the application "Siebel Service for CE."
  7. (This step for Siebel Industry Applications only.) Locate the "DefaultBusObj" directive that has the following value:
    • "SHCE Barcode|0||SHCE Barcode||SHCE Barcode Item||SHCE Barcode Enable|".

      Replace that value with the following value:

    • "SHCE Barcode|0||SHCE Barcode|[Description]="Service"|SHCE Barcode Item||SHCE Barcode Enable|".

To enable the SHCE Service FS Activity Parts Movements views for barcode scanning

  1. From the application-level menu, select Navigate > Site Map > Administration - Mobile > Barcode Enabling.

    The Barcode Enable list appears.

  2. In the View field perform a query for "SHCE Service FS Activity Part Movements."

    Eight records appear. Among these eight records, there are two records you need to change.

    1. Query for "SHCE Service FS Activity Part Movements" view.

      Select the record where Buscomp Field is set to "Used Quantity". Change the Buscomp Field value from "Used Quantity" to "Product Name".

    2. Query for "SHCE Service FS Activity Part Movements (More Info)" view.

      Select the record where Buscomp Field is set to "Used Quantity". Change the Buscomp Field value from "Used Quantity" to "Product Name".

  3. Save the changes.

To create the product Hard Disk 100 GB

  1. From the application-level menu, select Navigate > Site Map > Administration-Product.
  2. In the Products list, click New, then enter the values as described in the following table:

  3. Drill down on the Product Name hyperlink.
  4. In the More Info form, click the Field Replaceable box.
  5. In the More Info form, make sure the product is in the same organization as that of the Service Handheld user.

    Doing this allows the product to be downloaded to the handheld user's Service Handheld application during the handheld synchronization process.

    1. If the correct organization is not showing in the Organization field, click the select button in the Organization field, and choose the correct organization from the Organization pop-up list.
    2. If the correct organization is showing, click the Products menu, and select Save Record.

To catalog the product Hard Disk 100 GB

  1. From the application-level menu, select Navigate > Site Map > Administration-Catalog.
  2. In the Catalogs list, click New, then fill in the fields to create a new catalog record.
  3. In the name field enter: Siebel Services, then step off the record.
  4. Drill down on the Siebel Services link in the newly created record.

    The Categories view appears.

  5. Click new, and in the Name field, enter the following value: Maintenance-Support.
  6. In the More Info form, click the Products link.
  7. Click New, and in the Product field, enter the following value: Hard Disk 100GB.

    After the product and barcode definition are synchronized to the Service Handheld application, the handheld user can use barcode scanning functionality to move the product Hard Disk 100GB in the Activities > Move Parts view.
