Installing Multilingual Seed Data for the DB Server

If your organization deploys internationally and, therefore, requires data to be in multiple languages, you must install multilingual seed data (for example, lists of views, responsibilities, or system preferences). To do so, you add new Language Packs to your database after you have installed the primary (base) language for your database server. This addition populates the List of Values (LOV) with seed data in the new language.

Only after you successfully install seed data in your primary (base) language, can you add seed data in other languages to your database. Adding this seed data also adds new LOV data in the new language.

CAUTION:  You cannot add secondary languages to the Siebel Database for a Siebel Enterprise Server unless you have already installed them on the associated Siebel Server.

To install multilingual seed data

  1. Insert the appropriate DVD for the Siebel applications into the DVD drive, and mount this DVD:
    • Siebel eBusiness Applications, Base Applications for UNIX_OS
    • Siebel Industry Applications, Base Applications for UNIX_OS

      where:

UNIX_OS = Your UNIX operating system, such as AIX, HP-UX, or Solaris

NOTE:  The volume label for the DVD is seaUNIX_OSunibase (for Siebel eBusiness Applications) or siaUNIX_OSunibase (for Siebel Industry Applications), where UNIX_OS is aix, hpux, or sol.

  2. Follow the instructions under Installing the Siebel Database Server until you get to Step 5, but select 2 to select Add a new language to an existing instance.
  3. Follow the rest of the prompts, inserting the required Language Pack DVD for your Siebel product.
  4. When installation is complete, launch the Database Server Configuration Wizard and repeat Step 1 to Step 11 under Installing the DB Server Components.
  5. On the Select Installation Operation screen, select Add a language to an existing Siebel Database, and then click Next.
  6. Answer the remaining prompts as you did when you installed your primary (base) language seed data.

NOTE:  In a Unicode-enabled database environment, you can install any of the available Siebel Language Packs. In a non-Unicode database environment, you must consider the correlation of the Language Packs you want to install and the characters supported by your database code page. For example, in a Western European code page database, you can only install Western European Language Packs, such as English, French, Spanish, or German Language Packs. In a Japanese code page database, you can only install Japanese or English Language Packs.

For a list of supported code pages and encoding strategies, see System Requirements and Supported Platforms on Siebel SupportWeb.

NOTE:  To rerun the Upgrade Wizard at the point a program failed or a system error occurred, following the installation of multilingual seed data, see the Upgrade Guide.

  7. Enable the multilingual list of values (MLOV) capability within Siebel eBusiness Applications. For information, see Configuring Siebel eBusiness Applications.
