Installing the Siebel Database Server

Complete the steps that follow to complete installation of the Siebel Database Server (sometimes referred to here as DB Server).

NOTE:  You can have only one database per Siebel Enterprise Server. You must already have a Siebel Server installed on the computer on which you will install the Siebel Database Server.

To avoid DVD swapping, copy all installation files, including the required language files, to a common installation directory within your system, or use the Network Image Creator. For more information, see Creating a Network Image. If you elect not to install directly from DVD, you will not see some of the prompts regarding swapping the DVD in the following procedure.

NOTE:  The following procedure is for installing the base product. For patch installation instructions, refer to the Maintenance Release Guide provided with the patch.

To install the Siebel Database Server software

  1. If you are installing from DVD, insert the appropriate DVD for the Siebel applications into the DVD drive, and mount this DVD:
    • Siebel eBusiness Applications, Base Applications for UNIX_OS
    • Siebel Industry Applications, Base Applications for UNIX_OS

      where:

UNIX_OS = Your UNIX operating system, such as AIX, HP-UX, or Solaris

NOTE:  The volume label for the DVD is seaUNIX_OSunibase (for Siebel eBusiness Applications) or siaUNIX_OSunibase (for Siebel Industry Applications), where UNIX_OS is aix, hpux, or sol.

  2. Navigate to the root directory of the DVD or to the appropriate network directory, if you are installing from a network image.

As a convenience, you may also want to mount the seaalllanglep (for Siebel eBusiness Applications) or siaalllanglep (for Siebel Industry Applications) DVD, where lang is the code for the language you are installing, on a different DVD drive for the same machine.

  3. Verify the directories and permissions to those directories into which you will install the product. You must have write and execute permission.
  4. Navigate to UNIX_OS/Server/Siebel_Enterprise_Server and open a new shell.
  5. Unset any Siebel-specific environment variables. To view current environment variable settings, enter env in the shell window.
  6. To start the Siebel Database Server file installation, enter the following command, appending any flags you may also want to use, as described in Combining Console Mode and Unattended Mode Installation.

    ./setupUNIX_OS

The Welcome to InstallShield Wizard for Siebel Enterprise Server screen appears.

  7. Click Next.

Because you have already installed the Siebel Server on the same machine, the installer displays the message that an existing installation has been found.

  8. Depending on whether you are installing your Siebel Database Server for the first time or adding a new language to an existing instance, take the appropriate action:
    • To install the server software in a new instance, select None as the default and click Next. Proceed to Step 9.
    • To install a new language in an existing instance, select the displayed instance and click Next. Proceed to Step 13.

See also Guidelines for Installing Multiple Language Packs on the Siebel Server for important additional information on this topic.

NOTE:  You must install the Siebel Database Server in the same directory in which you installed the Siebel Server.

      The Installer Path screen appears.

  9. Enter the fully qualified path to the installation directory, then click Next.

The installer prompts you to select the product that you want to install.

  10. Select from the following options, then click Next:
    • Install all the components at once for which your organization has a license by selecting all the check boxes.
    • Select just the Siebel Database Server at this time for installation and configuration. (You will install and configure the other server components individually later.)

NOTE:  If you install all licensed components at once, the installer and the Siebel Software Configuration Wizard prompt you for the installation parameters of each component individually and in the sequence required.

The installer prompts you to select the type of installation setup you prefer.

  11. Choose the type of Siebel Database Server installation to execute from the following options, then click Next:
    • Typical. Installs all Siebel Database Server components.
    • Compact. Not supported. There is no compact installation option for the database server.
    • Custom. Lets you customize your installation by choosing the specific components you want to install.

CAUTION:  If you select Custom installation, make sure that you also select Sample Database support the first time you install the software. When Sample Database support is installed, additional files are copied to a directory in the Siebel File System after configuration. These files are required to read attachments. For more information, see Populating the Siebel File System for the DB Server.

For a list of the installable components, see the following table.

      Installation Setup
      Products

      Typical or Custom

The following components are installed with a Typical installation, and can be selected individually in a Custom installation:

      • Sample Database support—File attachments for Siebel seed data.
      • Oracle Database Enterprise Edition—Database scripts for the Siebel Database on Oracle.
      • IBM DB2 UDB for UNIX and Windows—Database scripts for the Siebel Database on DB2 UDB for UNIX and Windows.
      • IBM DB2 UDB for OS/390 and z/OS—Database scripts for the Siebel Database on DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390. See also Implementing Siebel eBusiness Applications on DB2 UDB for z/OS and OS/390.
    • If you chose the Custom installation type, proceed to Step 12.
    • If you chose the Typical installation type, proceed to Step 13.
  12. If you chose Custom, select the database platform components that you want to install, as described in the table in Step 11, and click Next.
  13. Choose the Language Pack or Packs you are installing for the Siebel Database Server and click Next.

All servers are installed, at a minimum, with the primary language in which the server will be run. This is the primary (base) language for your Enterprise Server. Optionally, you can install one or more additional languages.

When installing languages at a later date, you must also reinstall any patches (maintenance releases) that have been run on the directory.

NOTE:  In a Unicode-enabled database environment, you can install any of the available Siebel Language Packs. In a non-Unicode database environment, you must consider the correlation of the Language Packs you want to install and the characters supported by your database code page. For example, in a Western European code page database, you can only install Western European Language Packs, such as English, French, Spanish, or German Language Packs. In a Japanese code page database, you can only install Japanese or English Language Packs.

For supported code pages and encoding strategies, see System Requirements and Supported Platforms on Siebel SupportWeb.

The installer displays the location into which it will install the Siebel Database Server and any other servers you have elected to install. It also displays the file size.

  14. Review your installation selections. If you want to make changes, click Back. To proceed with installation, click Next.

The installer proceeds to install the specified files. After the files have been copied to the installation location, this message appears:

Setup did not find the lang language pack on the current media. Please insert the DVD containing the lang language pack and select the setupUNIX_OS file from the lang folder.

    where:

lang = The code for the language you are installing, such as enu for U.S. English.

UNIX_OS = Your UNIX operating system, such as aix, hp, or sol.

NOTE:  For Siebel Industry Applications, the Windows and UNIX Language Packs are on different DVDs.

  15. Mount to the appropriate Language Pack DVD (seaalllanglep for Siebel eBusiness Applications or siaalllanglep for Siebel Industry Applications) and click OK.

A dialog box appears, displaying a file called siebel.ini. However, you do not need to do anything with this file.

  16. Clear the filter dialog box, if needed, to be sure that you can see the appropriate files.
  17. Open setupUNIX_OS under the UNIX_OS/Server/Siebel_Enterprise_Server/lang directory, where UNIX_OS is your UNIX operating system, such as aix, hp, or sol, and lang is the code for the Language Pack you are installing, such as FRA for French.

A message appears, stating that language files are being installed.

When installation of all the language files has been completed, the installer prompts you again for the base DVD.

Please re-insert the base DVD and browse to setupUNIX_OS file to enable setup to continue.

    where:

UNIX_OS = Your UNIX operating system, such as aix, hp, or sol.

  18. Navigate again to the base DVD mount point on the network, locate UNIX_OS/Server/Siebel_Enterprise_Server/setupUNIX_OS, and click OK.

After all server files specified have been installed, the installer displays the message:

The InstallShield Wizard has successfully installed the Siebel Enterprise Server. Click Finish to exit the Wizard.

  19. Click Finish.
  20. Proceed to Reviewing Installation of the Siebel Database Server.

If you would like to view events that occurred during the installation, you can access the log generated by the installer at $SIEBEL_ROOT/log.txt.
