About Installing in Unattended and Console Mode

For performance or security reasons, you may choose to install the Siebel eBusiness Applications servers using one of these modes instead of GUI. You should use one of these modes for security or performance reasons in the following kinds of situation:

  • Unattended mode. Use unattended installation mode if user input of configuration parameters during the installation is not allowed in your environment.
  • Console mode. Use console installation mode when installing multiple servers simultaneously.

Use console installation mode when installing over a WAN. Installing in GUI mode over a WAN can use large amounts of bandwidth resulting in undesirable lag times during installation. The console installation provides a text-only interface that lets you bypass the Java-based GUI.

NOTE:  If you are using X-connectivity software to access a UNIX machine from a Windows machine, you might experience unexpected exiting or hanging by the installer. If this is the case, try using a later version of the X-connectivity software; for example, if you are using Exceed, make sure you are using Exceed 8.0 or greater. For details on installing in console mode, see Installing in Console Mode.
