Copying DVDs Directly to a Central Network Location

You can mount and copy the entire set of DVDs to a central network location, or you can copy selected portions of the DVDs, while preserving the directory structure for the desired products and languages for your business needs. The following procedure explains how to copy the files to a central network location.

NOTE:  Siebel DVD media support Rock Ridge extensions. On some UNIX operating systems, such as HP-UX, the mount command requires the -o rr switch to mount Rock Ridge-compliant media properly. For more information, consult the manpages of your operating system for the mount CDFS command.

In the procedure below, you mount the DVD media, then copy all the components needed for your installation to a share created for the network image.

To copy required files to a central network location

  1. Create a target installation directory from which to stage system-wide installations, for example, /my_server/image.

CAUTION:  When you create a network image for Siebel Mobile Web Client or Siebel Tools installation files, the target directory structure must not include the word disk1 anywhere in the directory path.

When you untar TAR files, the base files must be uncompressed before the language files to preserve the integrity of the CRC files.

  2. Insert the appropriate DVD for the Siebel applications into the DVD drive of the chosen server, and mount this DVD:
    • Siebel eBusiness Applications, Base Applications for UNIX_OS
    • Siebel Industry Applications, Base Applications for UNIX_OS

      where:

UNIX_OS = Your UNIX operating system, such as AIX, HP-UX, or Solaris

NOTE:  The volume label for the DVD is seaUNIX_OSunibase (for Siebel eBusiness Applications) or siaUNIX_OSunibase (for Siebel Industry Applications), where UNIX_OS is aix, hpux, or sol.

  3. Navigate to the root directory of the DVD and copy all the platforms, product types, and products, including subdirectories, as reflected by the directory names on the DVD, to the target installation directory you created in Step 1.

For example, to copy the base files for Siebel Enterprise Server, navigate to the root directory of the DVD and copy the directory structure containing UNIX_OS/Server/Siebel_Enterprise_Server to /my_server/image. The resulting directory will be /my_server/image/UNIX_OS/Server/Siebel_Enterprise_Server.

    where:

UNIX_OS = Your UNIX operating system, such as AIX, Solaris, or HPUX (for HP-UX)

  4. Repeat Step 3 for the appropriate files for the languages you want to install.
