About Installing the Siebel Client

Siebel Systems supports Mobile and Dedicated Web Client installations on the operating systems and hardware described in System Requirements and Supported Platforms on Siebel SupportWeb. These clients are installed and run on supported Microsoft Windows platforms only.

NOTE:  This book assumes that installations are performed by administrators, not end users.

The installation described in this chapter is based on default installation parameters set by Siebel Systems.

If you want to prepare custom software installation packages for distribution to end users, you install the Siebel client as a model installation. After completing client installation and configuration, you run the Siebel Packager utility. A model client installation serves as the basis for a package. For details, see Going Live with Siebel eBusiness Applications.

The behavior of the client installer can be modified by updating parameter settings in the setup.ini and siebel.ini files. For more information about the function of the siebel.ini file and how to modify it, see comments contained within the siebel.ini file itself, and see installation topics on Siebel SupportWeb.

NOTE:  You can install or run multiple instances of the Siebel client on the same system. ActiveX controls used in high-interactivity applications are versioned differently for each Siebel product release, including maintenance releases. Except for maintenance releases, which are applied to an existing base installation, you must install each different version in a separate location.

To support Mobile Web Client users after installation, you also verify connection to the Siebel Remote Server. For more information, see Postinstallation Tasks for Siebel Server. See also Siebel Remote and Replication Manager Administration Guide.

For information about uninstalling Siebel client software, see Uninstalling Mobile and Dedicated Web Clients.
