Setting Up Cycle Counting


Follow these procedures to set up cycle counting.

To specify asynchronous operation of the Cycle Counting Engine for a specific user

  1. From the application-level menu, choose View > User Preferences.
  2. From the Show drop-down list, select Service.
  3. In the section ASYNCHRONOUS GENERATION OF, select Cycle Counts.

To set component request parameters for the Cycle Counting Engine

  1. Insert or edit a component request for the Field Service Cycle Counting Engine server component.
  2. Add or modify the server component parameters as needed.

To set a repeating component request for the Cycle Counting Engine

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Server Administration > Enterprise Operations.
  2. In the Enterprise Servers list, select the server on which you want the Cycle Counting Engine component to run.
  3. Click the Repeating Component Requests view tab.
  4. In the Repeating Component Requests form, create a new record.
  5. In the Component/Job field, select Field Service Cycle Counting Engine.
  6. Complete the other fields, as needed.
  7. In the Component Request Parameters list, create new records with field values as shown in the following table.
  8. Name
    Value
    Start Date
    Date for the repeating component request to start running. Enter the date in the format MM-DD-YYYY.
    For example, if you want the request to start running on May 22, 2003, enter 05-22-2003.
    End Date
    Date for the repeating component request to stop running. Enter the date in the format MM-DD-YYYY.
    For example, if you want the request to stop running on July 15, 2003, enter 07-15-2003.

    NOTE:  If the value of Start Date is equal to the value of End Date, then all the parts will appear on one list that can be used for physical inventory.

    CAUTION:  The Field Service Cycle Counting Engine server component accepts date value parameters only in the exact format MM-DD-YYYY. If you enter the date in another format, the field will display your entry, but the Cycle Counting Engine will not start.

  9. Add additional component request parameters, if needed.

To change system preferences for the Cycle Counting Engine

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Application Administration > System Preferences.
  2. In the System Preference Name column, locate the system preference whose value you want to change.
  3. NOTE:  For cycle counting engine-related system preferences, see Table 100).

  4. In the System Preference Value field, enter a new value.
  5. To register changes to system preferences, restart the Field Service server.

To set up cycle counts for specific inventory locations

  1. Navigate to the Inventory screen.
  2. In the Inventory Locations list, select an inventory location.
  3. In the More Info form, enter values for the Count Basis, Frequency, and Period fields.

To define the start date and end date for cycle counting

  1. Navigate to Inventory > Cycle Counts.
  2. In the Inventory Locations list, select an inventory location.
  3. In the More Info list, locate the cycle count whose start and end dates you want to set.
  4. Enter values for the Started and Ended dates.

To define the cycle count basis for inventory locations

  1. Navigate to the Inventory screen.
  2. In the Inventory Locations list, select an inventory location.
  3. In the More Info form, in the Count Basis field, select ABC or XYZ.

To define the cycle count basis for inventory location types

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Service Administration > Service Inventory.
  2. In the Inventory Location Types list, select an existing inventory type record or add a new one.
  3. In the Count Basis field, select ABC or XYZ.

To define cycle count classes for products at specific inventory locations

  1. Navigate to the Inventory screen.
  2. In the Inventory Locations list, select an inventory location.
  3. Click the Product Inventory tab.
  4. Select a product.
  5. In the ABC Class and XYZ Class fields, select the relevant cycle counting classes (A, B, or C; X, Y, or Z).

To define the cycle count class for products associated with specific inventory types

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Product Administration.
  2. In the Products list, select a product.
  3. In the More Info view tab's Show drop-down list, select Product Service Details.
  4. On the Inventory Options subview tab, select an existing inventory type or add a new type.
  5. In the Class ABC and Class XYZ fields, select the relevant cycle counting classes (A, B, or C; X, Y, or Z).

To define cycle counting frequency and periods for an inventory location

  1. Navigate to the Inventory screen.
  2. In the Inventory Locations list, select an inventory location.
  3. On the More Info tab, click the show more button.
  4. In the Frequency field, enter the number of days.
  5. In the Period A/X, Period B/Y, and Period C/Z fields, enter the relevant numbers of days.

To define cycle counting frequency and periods for an inventory location type

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Service Administration > Service Inventory.
  2. In the Inventory Location Types list, select an existing inventory location type or add a new inventory location type.
  3. In the Frequency field, enter the number of days.
  4. In the Period A/X, Period B/Y, and Period C/Z fields, enter the relevant numbers of days.

To configure tracing for the Cycle Counting Engine

  1. Navigate to Site Map > Server Administration >Servers.
  2. Click the Server Parameters view tab.
  3. In the Server Parameters list, locate the Trace Flags parameter.
  4. Set the appropriate values for the fields in the Trace Flags parameter record.

To manually specify parts for a cycle count

  1. Navigate to Inventory > Cycle Counts.
  2. In the Inventory Locations list, select an inventory location where the cycle count will take place.
  3. On the Cycle Counts subview tab, select a cycle count.
  4. Click the hyperlink in the Cycle Counts record's Status field.
  5. In the Part List tab, add a new record.
  6. In the Product field, select a product.
  7. Complete the other fields as needed.
