Defining Products for Field Service

Before you set up an inventory system, you must define the products that the inventory system will track. For more information on defining products, see Product Administration Guide.

To create serialized and non-serialized products

  1. Navigate to the Product Administration screen.
  2. Select a product.
  3. From the Show drop-down list, select Product Service Details.
  4. If the product has a serial or asset number, select Serialized.

To specify an asset for a product

  1. Navigate to the Assets screen.
  2. Create an asset record.
  3. In the Product field, select a product.
  4. If the asset has a serial number, enter it in the Serial # field.

To specify allocation of products

  1. Navigate to the Product Administration screen.
  2. Select a product.
  3. From the More Info view tab's Show drop-down list, select Product Service Details.
  4. In the More Info view tab, select the desired allocation modes: Allocate Below Safety, Auto Allocate, or Auto Substitute.
  5. See Product Field Service Details View.

CAUTION:  If you change the Allocate Below Safety, Auto Allocate, or Auto Substitute flags, you must restart the Parts Locator and Fulfillment Server components. (You do not have to restart the entire server.) If you do not restart these components, the system will not reset the product attribute settings in the Part Locator Engine and the Fulfillment Engine. For information about how to restart server components, refer to Siebel Server Administration Guide.

  6. Click the Inventory Options subview tab.
  7. In the Inventory Options subview, create records for each type of inventory location from which this product may be allocated.
  8. This view inherits Allocate Below Safety, Auto Allocate, and Auto Substitute values from the More Info view.

    1. In the Inventory Type field, select a type of inventory location.
    2. Set the Allocate Below Safety, Auto Allocate, and Auto Substitute values if different than those specified for the product.
    3. In the Class ABC and Class XYZ fields, set the cycle counting basis values of A, B, or C and X, Y, or Z.
    4. See Configuration of the Cycle Counting Engine.
