Understanding Providers

A Provider record is a mapping of the UDDI businessEntity type to one that is simpler to manage and understand. It represents an organization, a business, a department, a unit responsible for a set of technical or similar resources. Like its UDDI counter part, a Provider acts as a point of human responsibility for other records in the Registry representing technical resources in a distributed system. Each Service must be published under a provider umbrella.

The other key information published under a provider is contact information for employees or team members responsible for maintaining records and resources.

Provider Details

The right Details tab of the Provider Details control displays a tab in which you can find Contacts, Web Page URLS, a general Description of the provider, and search Keywords associated with the record.

The Classification tab lets you view taxonomic classifications associated with this provider.

Finally, the Services tab leads to a list of services published under the provider. The References tab lets you find records that reference the provider. To see technical information such as keys and modification history see the System Info tab. All tabs can be combined into a single view under the View All tab.

At anytime you can use the action drop down list box to edit, delete, Publish a new service under, or subscribe to the record you are viewing. Given the proper account type and permissions, clicking the Go button will launch one of these processes.
