Constraining Searches by Category

A Registry Category is a special type of Keyed Reference known as a Taxonomy. Businesses, Services, Bindings and tModels all have as a property a Category Bag. When these types of records are published, good practice recommends populating this bag with Categories established by the Registry Administrator.

When searching for one of these record types, likewise a bag of categories can be added to the search parameters. By default these keys are AND'ed together, creating very strict search criteria. This logic can be modified through the Find Qualifiers tab.

To Set Up Search Categories...

  1. Navigate to the Categories tab in the Search page.

    1. Click the Search tab.

    2. Click the menu item for the record type you wish to search.

    3. You can select a Checked Taxonomy or an Unchecked one.

      To Select a Checked Taxonomy

      1. Drill down through the Taxonomy tree and locate the Taxonomy you want to use. Some extensive taxonomies will load a search by name control.

      2. Check the box of the desired Taxonomy.

      3. You can either add the taxonomy singly to the list or you can add it with its parent taxonomies.

To add it singly, click the Add categories arrows to the right of the control. These are the dotted ones. The category will be added to the list.

To add a taxonomy with parents click the Add with parents arrows to the right of the control. These are the solid ones. The categories will be added to the list.

      To Select an Unchecked Taxonomy

      1. Drill down through the Taxonomy tree and locate the category you want to use.

      2. Enter the Key Value in the edit box. This is required. Optionally enter the Key name as well. Take care that these are entered correctly as they cannot be checked. The "%" wildcard can also be used within the string.

      3. Click the Add category arrow to the right of the control. The category will be added to the list.

Once the list contains at least one Keyed Value you can execute the search.

  3. If necessary, set other constraints. These can be names, identities, tModels, or other depending on the type of record for which you are searching. If you need to change the combinatorial logic of the search terms, do so in the Find Qualifiers tab.

  4. Click the Find button. The results are returned in the Results tab.
