To learn what rules are and what they are used for, refer to What You Can Do with Rules.
Note: You must have permission to create rules. If you think you are supposed to be able to create rules, but you do not see the Rules folder, contact your portal administrator.
To create or edit a rule:
If the Rule Editor is not already open, open it:
On the Notifications tab, expand the Rules folder as necessary, and open the desired folder.
Open the Rule Editor in one of the following ways:
To create a rule, click Create Rule.
To edit a rule, check the box next to the rule and click .
In the Select Template drop-down list, select the rule template on which you want to base this rule. New fields display with information populated from the rule template.
If you are editing a rule and the rule template associated with this rule has been changed, click Reload Template.
In the Name
box, type a clear and concise name for this rule. Users will see this
name when they select a rule on which to base their system notification.
Note: You can only enter
alphanumeric characters, no spaces.
In the Description box, type a brief description for this rule.
The ActivationRule displays the expression that must prove true to trigger the system to send the associated notification. The ResetRule displays the expression that must prove true after a system notification is sent before that same notification can be triggered again.
In the activation parameter box (the box will be named differently depending on the rule parameter), type the value to replace the variable in the ActivationRule expression.
If there is a variable in the ResetRule expression, you will also see a reset parameter box (again, the box will be named differently depending on the rule parameter). In the reset parameter box, type the value to replace the variable in the ResetRule expression.
If necessary, click Folder, to select a different folder in which to store this rule.
When you are done, click Finish.
All new rules are created as disabled, so that the BAM system (Business Activity Monitoring system) is not wasting resources monitoring for rules that are not being used. After associating this rule with a system notification, return to the appropriate rules folder, select the rule, and click Enable.
