Licensing

To use the WebLogic Server software, you must have a valid license file installed on your system. BEA products use an XML-format file called license.bea, which is created in the BEA Home directory by the installation program and is used for all the BEA products installed in that directory. At run time, your BEA software checks this file to determine which product components you are authorized to use.

Note the following about the license.bea file when you install WebLogic Server:

WebLogic Server 10.0 License Package Offerings


The licenses that are available for WebLogic Server 10.0 are described in the following table. For information about adding licenses for these offerings to the license.bea file, see Installing and Updating License Files in the BEA Products Installation Guide.


 

Development Licenses

Product Offering

Description

WebLogic 10.0 SDK

Provides a complete development framework for WebLogic Server.

WebLogic 10.0 SDK, Pro Edition

Provides a complete development framework for WebLogic Server, and includes support.

 

Production Licenses

Product Offering

Description

WebLogic Server Premium Edition

Provides full support for WebLogic Server functionality including the core Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) Version 5 features. WebLogic Server Premium Edition provides premium clustering, caching, and messaging.

WebLogic Server Advantage Edition

Provides support for WebLogic Server functionality including the core Java Platform, Enterprise Edition (Java EE) Version 5 features.

WebLogic Workgroup Edition

Provides support for the same functionality enabled by the WebLogic Server Advantage Edition, but is limited to 20 concurrent users.

WebLogic Express Premium Edition

WebLogic Express offers many services and APIs available with WebLogic Server, including WebLogic JDBC features, JavaServer Pages (JSP), servlets, Remote Method Invocation (RMI), and Web server functionality. WebLogic Express differs from WebLogic Server in that WebLogic Express does not provide Enterprise JavaBeans (EJB), Java Message Services (JMS), Java EE CA, or the two-phase commit protocol for transactions. WebLogic Express Premium Edition includes premium clustering support.

WebLogic Express Base Edition

Provides the WebLogic Express functionality as described above but does not include premium clustering support.



 

BEA JRockit 5.0 License Package Offerings

BEA JRockit 5.0 includes support for BEA JRockit Mission Control. To use the included JRockit Mission Control, you need to obtain a suitable license.

Mission Control License Types

License Type

Description

Developer license

The Developer license is free and allows JRockit to run the tools for one hour.

Enterprise License

The Enterprise license allows unlimited use of the tools. It is bound to an IP address.

ISV license

The ISV License allows independent software vendors access to the Mission Control APIs and branding of the tools.
