AIX 4.3.3 on PowerPC, POWER3 and POWER4 with WebLogic Server 7.0.0.1

Indicates support for WebLogic Server run-time and WLS Design and Dev Tools. No support for other WebLogic Platform components.

This section provides the following information:

End of Life: On December 31, 2003, WebLogic Platform, including WebLogic Server, stopped supporting IBM AIX 4.3.3 on IBM PowerPC, POWER3 and IBM PowerPC, POWER4. WebLogic Platform 7.0 SP4 is expected to be the final service pack issued for AIX 4.3.3. BEA recommends that current AIX 4.3.3 customers start using other certified releases of WebLogic Platform and WebLogic Server on AIX 5.1 or AIX 5.2 platforms. For more information, see WebLogic Platform End-of-Life Announcements.

Known Issues

Issue

Workaround

WebLogic Server 7.0 does not provide a net installer for AIX.

See Installing WebLogic Server 7.0.0.1.

WebLogic Server 7.0 does not support the ORB provided with the IBM SDK.

Use WebLogic Server's ORB implementation, instead. To use this implementation, specify the following command on the client side:
-Dweblogic.system.iiop.enableClient=true

UDP_SENDSPACE buffer size defaults to 9216 (9k). WebLogic Server sends fragments up to 32K. Using a buffer size smaller than 32 KB may cause an IO Exception.

    1. Set the buffer size to 32 KB by running the following command:
    no -o udp_sendspace=32768

    2. Reboot WebLogic Server.

When you turn on JIT, some functions in the weblogic.Admin utility do not work properly with IBM SDK 1.3.1 32-bit PTF 1 (IY30887).

Apply IBM efix IY33728 by following the instructions in Downloading and Installing the IBM SDK Fix.

WebLogic Server 7.0 uses its own JSSE implementation to handle SSL communication. However, this implementation does not work properly if you use IBM's JSSE implementation as the Java extension.

Remove ibmjsse.jar from the jre/lib/ext directory of the SDK installation from which you run WebLogic Server.

Download and Installation Instructions

This section provides instructions for:

Downloading and Installing the IBM SDK Fix

If you are using IBM SDK 1.3.1 32-bit PTF 1 (IY30887), you need to apply the efix available in PTF for APAR IY33728, available from IBM. This efix resolves PMR 74336,001,866, reported by BEA.

Note: IBM plans to include this efix in the next PTF release. The FTP site from which the efix described here is currently obtained will then be removed from IBM's Web site. Once the next release of the IBM SDK 1.3.1 PTF is available, you can get the efix described here by installing the new PTF release. For the date of that release, see the README file described in the following procedure.

To apply the efix in PTF for APAR IY33728, complete the following procedure:

  1. Download the PTF for APAR IY33728, in the installp format, from the following FTP site:
  2. ftp://service.software.ibm.com/aix/efixes/iy33728/

  3. Install the efix by following the instructions in the README file provided at the FTP site.
  4. Verify that the PTF for APAR IY33728 is applied by running the following command:
  5. $ instfix -ivqk IY33728.

Installing WebLogic Server 7.0.0.1

The commands used to install WebLogic Server vary from one operating system to another. In addition, command-line parameters vary to accommodate the three modes of installation available with WebLogic Server: graphical mode, console mode, and silent mode.

To install WebLogic Server on an AIX system, run the command appropriate for your installation mode:

For more information about installation, see BEA WebLogic Server and WebLogic Express Installation Guide.
