AIX 5.1 on PowerPC, POWER3 and POWER4 with 7.0 SP2

Provides full support for WebLogic Server and run-time support for WebLogic Workshop, WebLogic Integration, and WebLogic Portal. See below for Design and Development Tools support.

This SDK is not provided with WebLogic Platform; you must download it from the IBM Web site and install it, manually, on your system. For instructions, see Downloading and Installing the IBM SDK.

Known Issues

Servers may fail on startup with a broken pipe or a connection reset by a peer.

Try removing the loopback entries from the default routing table. For more information, see http://www-1.ibm.com/support/docview.wss?uid=swg21040968

The default buffer size for UDP_SENDSPACE is 9216 (9k), but fragments sent by WebLogic Server may be up to 32K, so using a buffer size smaller than 32k may cause an IO Exception.

    1. Set the buffer size to 32 KB by issuing the following command:
    no -o udp_sendspace=32768

    2. Reboot WebLogic Server.

WebLogic Workshop on AIX does not support DB2.

Use a database other than DB2 if you want to run WebLogic Workshop on AIX. For information about supported databases, see Supported Database Configurations in Supported Configurations for WebLogic Platform 7.0.

IBM JVM Updates For DST

IBM has released a Timezone Update Utility to update DST data without the need to upgrade Java. See IBM Time Zone Update Utility for JavaTM.

 


Download and Installation Instructions

If you plan to run 7.0 SP2 on IBM AIX, you must use IBM SDK 1.3.1 32-bit PTF 2, APAR IY33957. Because this package is not delivered with WebLogic Platform, you must download and install it manually before installing WebLogic Platform on your system.

Note: You cannot use an older version of the IBM SDK, even if one is already installed on your system. You must download and install this particular version: IBM SDK 1.3.1 32-bit
PTF (APAR IY33957).

If you are using the upgrade installer or the Smart Update installer to upgrade your existing installation of WebLogic Platform on AIX, your existing IBM SDK is not updated automatically.

This section provides instructions for:

Downloading and Installing the IBM SDK

To download and install the SDK, complete the following procedure:

  1. Go to the following IBM Web site:
  2. https://techsupport.services.ibm.com/server/aix.fdc

  3. When prompted, set the search criteria for the SDK as follows.

  5. Download and install the SDK.
  6. Verify that the PTF 2 APAR IY33957 is applied, by running the following command:
  7. $instfix -ivqk IY33957

  8. Add the bin directory of the newly installed SDK to the beginning of your PATH variable.

Downloading and Installing 7.0 SP2

Complete the following procedure:

  1. Download the IBM AIX installer for 7.0 SP2 from the following site:
  2. http://commerce.bea.com

  3. Go to the directory that contains the installation file.
  4. Run the command appropriate for your installation mode:
    • Graphical mode:
    • java -classpath (net_)pj_platform702_generic.jar \
      com.bea.installer.BEAInstallController

    • Console mode:
    • java -classpath (net_)pj_platform702_generic.jar \
      com.bea.installer.BEAInstallController -mode=console

    • Silent mode:
    • java -classpath (net_)pj_platform702_generic.jar \
      com.bea.installer.BEAInstallController -mode=silent \
      -silent_xml=/path_to_silent.xml

    In this command line:

    • Replace installer_directory with the path of the directory in which you just downloaded the WebLogic Platform installer.
    • Replace filename.jar with one of the filenames listed in the following table.
