Create SNMP monitors

Creating a WebLogic SNMP monitor offloads polling of WebLogic Server resources from SNMP managers to the Administration Server.

WebLogic SNMP monitors poll WebLogic Server configuration and runtime attributes of resources at a specified interval to check for the occurrence of conditions or the crossing of thresholds. When a monitor detects the specified condition, it sends a trap to each SNMP manager for which you have configured a trap destination.

You can also use WebLogic Server to collect SNMP requests from various network resources and forward them to specific SNMP managers.

You can create the following types of SNMP monitors:

• A string monitor periodically polls an attribute whose value is a string and generates a trap if the attribute value matches a string that you specify. Alternatively, you can specify that the monitor generates a trap if the attribute value does not match your string.
• A gauge monitor indicates whether an attribute is operating within a specific range.

  A gauge monitor periodically polls an attribute whose value is an integer or floating-point and compares the attribute value with a high and a low threshold that you define. It generates a trap if the attribute value is equal to or exceeds the high or low threshold.

• A counter monitor indicates whether an attribute value is above a specific threshold.

  A counter monitor periodically polls an attribute whose value is an integer and compares the attribute value with a high threshold that you define. It generates a trap if the attribute value equals or exceeds the high threshold. You can also configure an offset or modulus, which increases or decreases the threshold each time the threshold is crossed.
