Create attribute changes

Before you begin

An attribute change detects any type of change in a configuration attribute and sends a trap to the configured trap destinations.

Note: Attribute changes cannot monitor runtime attributes. Runtime MBeans always include the word Runtime in their names. For example, the ServerRuntime MBean provides access to runtime attributes while the Server MBean provides access to configuration attributes. To monitor changes in an MBean that includes Runtime in its name, use a string monitor, gauge monitor, or counter monitor.

To create and configure an attribute change:

  1. If you have not already done so, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Lock & Edit (see Use the Change Center).
  2. In the Administration Console, expand Diagnostics > SNMP Agent and select Attribute Changes.
  3. On the SNMP Attribute Changes page, click New.

Note: Once you create an attribute change, you cannot rename it. Instead, you must delete it and create another one that uses the new name.

  4. On the Create an SNMP Attribute Change page, enter a name for the attribute change, then click Finish.
  5. On the SNMP Attribute Changes page, click the name of the new attribute change.
  6. On the SNMP Attribute Changes: Configuration page, enter values in the Monitored MBean Type, Monitored Attribute Name, and (optionally) Monitored MBean Name fields.

For more information, refer to Determine MBean types and attribute names and (optionally) Determine MBean instance names.

For example, to monitor the AcceptBacklog attribute of the Server MBean for MedRecServer:
    1. In the Monitored MBean Type field, enter Server.
    2. In the Monitored MBean Name field, enter MedRecServer.
    3. In the Monitored Attribute Name field, enter AcceptBacklog.
  7. Click Save.
  8. To activate these changes, in the Change Center of the Administration Console, click Activate Changes.
Not all changes take effect immediately—some require a restart (see Use the Change Center).

After you finish

Target the attribute change to one or more servers. See Target attribute changes.

You do not need to restart the Administration Server after you create and initially configure an attribute change. However, if you change an attribute change after you create it, you must restart the Administration Server.
