If you haven't started Workshop yet, use these steps to do so.

... on Microsoft Windows

If you are using a Windows operating system, follow these instructions.

...on Linux

If you are using a Linux operating system, follow these instructions.

Create a New Workspace

Note: If you already have a workspace open, this will restart Workshop. Before beginning, you might want to launch help in standalone mode to avoid an interruption the restart could cause. See Using Help in a Standalone Mode for more information.

  1. In the Workspace Launcher dialog, click the Browse button. (If Workshop is already running, select File > Switch Workspace. )
  2. In the Select Workspace Directory dialog, navigate to a directory of your choice and click Make New Folder.
  3. Name the new folder, press the Enter key and click OK.
  4. In the Workspace Launcher dialog, click OK.
  5. Close the Welcome view.

Undeploy Previous Tutorial and Sample Code

WebLogic Server does not support the deployment of projects with the same name from two different locations on disk.

For this reason, anytime you deploy a sample or run through a tutorial, you should check your server for previous deployments of the same code. If your server already has a deployment of the sample or tutorial code, you should either (1) undeploy any previous code or (2) create a new server domain

Configure WebLogic Server (for Workshop for WebLogic Users)

  1. Right-click anywhere within the body of the Servers view and select New > Server.
  2. In the Select the server type field, select the node BEA Systems > BEA WebLogic Server 10.0 and click Next.
  3. Click the pulldown on the Domain home dropdown field, and select the following value:

    BEA_HOME\wlserver_10.0\samples\domains\workshop_10.1

  4. Click Finish.

Download, Install, and Configure WebLogic Server (for Workshop Studio and Workshop for JSP Users)

If you already have WebLogic Server 10 installed, you can skip to step 11 below.

  1. Visit the WebLogic Server 10 download page.
  2. Locate the Workshop for Weblogic 10.1 download, select your operating system from the dropdown, and click Select.
  3. Register and login in with your BEA Login ID.
  4. Select I would like to evaluate this product and click Next.
  5. Fill out and submit the survey.

  8. When the download is complete, open the downloaded file to begin the installation process.
  9. Complete the installation wizard by accepting all of the default values, except on the screen titled Choose BEA Home Directory. On that page, select Use an existing BEA Home and select your exisiting BEA Home directory that already contains your installation of Workshop Studio 10.1 or Workshop for JSP 10.1.

(Note that this will install a copy of Workshop for WebLogic, which is necessary to access the Workshop samples domain.)
