Barcode Toolbar

Siebel Field Service includes a barcode toolbar to receive incoming data from a barcode reader. The barcode toolbar appears immediately below the application-level menu in Siebel Field Service.

Figure 35 shows the barcode toolbar.

The barcode toolbar contains the following controls, from left to right: a New button, an Update button, a Find button, a Use drop-down list, and an Activate button.

You can show or hide the barcode toolbar according to the following factors:

  • For a mobile computer, you must set the ShowBarcodeToolbar parameter in the sfs.cfg file. A value of TRUE shows the barcode toolbar, while a value of FALSE hides the barcode toolbar. If your Siebel application is licensed to include barcode automation functionality, then the parameter is TRUE by default.
  • For a server configuration, the Barcode Toolbar Enable Flag parameter must exist in the SFSObjMgr. A value of TRUE enables the barcode toolbar, while a value of FALSE disables the barcode toolbar.

NOTE:  A client running on an individual workstation cannot display the Barcode toolbar and the CTI toolbar at the same time.

Table 49 describes the functionality of the barcode toolbar buttons.

Button
Description

New

Enters a value of the specified type (from the Use List) into a new record in the selected view.

Update

Enters a value of the specified type (from the Use List) into a field in an existing record, replacing the existing field value.

Find

Locates the appropriate record. When a user scans the barcode, the applicable view with the query already executed appears, and only those records that match the value scanned from the barcode appear.

Activate

Enables or disables the barcode functionality.

Only one of the following buttons can be active at a time: New, Update, or Find. After you click one of these buttons, the button remains active until you click one of the other 2 buttons.

The Use drop-down list contains entry modes that designate the type of information coming from the next barcode to Siebel Field Service. The contents of the Use drop-down list change according to the following factors:

  • Whether the New, Update, or Find button is selected
  • The active screen and view

You select a value in the drop-down list only if multiple values appear in it.
