Single Instance Oracle ASM with Separate Disk Groups in a Non-Global Zone

This section provides information on the dependency requirements for single instance Oracle ASM with single instance Oracle databases and single instance Oracle ASM disk groups in non-global zones. There are two diagrams, where the second diagram is a continuation of the first diagram.

Note - Single instance Oracle ASM is not supported with Oracle 11g release 2 or 12c. For these releases, you must only use clustered Oracle ASM.

The following diagram represents a single instance Oracle ASM that serves two single instance Oracle databases DB1 and DB2 running within a non-global zone ZoneA on Node1. The database DB1 exclusively uses Oracle ASM disk group DG1 and database DB2 exclusively uses Oracle ASM disk group DG2.

The upper part of the diagram shows the relationships of the Oracle database instances with the clustered Oracle ASM instances on Node1 and Node2. The single instance Oracle ASM manages two disk groups DG1 and DG2 on Node1. The lower part of the diagram represents the existing Oracle Solaris Cluster resource groups and resources to independently failover DB1, DG1 or DB2, DG2 to ZoneA on Node2.

In the diagram the dotted boxes represent existing HA for Oracle resources with new Oracle ASM resources. Inside the nodes, new dependencies between HA for Oracle resources and single instance Oracle ASM resources are represented using arrows.

The following diagram is a continuation of the previous diagram. In this diagram, the single instance Oracle database DB2 that exclusively uses Oracle ASM disk group DG2 is running on Node2 after a failover of resource group DB2–rg to Node2. The upper part of the diagram within the non-global zone shows the relationships of the Oracle database instances with the single instance Oracle ASM instances on Node1 and Node2. The Oracle ASM disk group DG2 is now served from the single instance Oracle ASM in ZoneA on Node2 while Oracle ASM disk group DG1 is served by the single instance Oracle ASM in ZoneA on Node1.

The lower part of the diagram represents the existing Oracle Solaris Cluster resource groups and resources to independently failover DB1, DG1 or DB2, DG2 to ZoneA on Node2.
