Preface

This guide contains instructions for installing or upgrading to System Management Services (SMS) 1.6 software on a Sun Firetrademark high-end system. In addition, this guide discusses the Solaristrademark Security Toolkit and how it affects SMS installation, upgrading, and version switching. This guide is intended for the Sun Fire high-end system administrator who has a working knowledge of UNIX® systems and your Solaristrademark Operating System.


Before You Read This Document

If you do not have a working knowledge of UNIX commands and procedures and your Solaris Operating System, read the Solaris OS user and system administrator documentation provided with your system hardware, and consider UNIX system administration training.


How This Document Is Organized

This guide contains the following information:

Chapter 1 provides software requirements and general planning information about installing SMS 1.6.

Chapter 2 discusses the Solaris Security Toolkit, and how it affects SMS during and after installation, upgrading, and version switching.

Chapter 3 provides step-by-step instructions for installing or upgrading the SMS 1.6 software.

Chapter 4 provides additional procedures that you might want to perform while using or updating the SMS 1.6 software, such as adding users to SMS.

Chapter 5 describes how to configure SMS 1.6 software and install additional software packages on the domains of Sun Fire high-end systems.

Glossary is a list of acronyms and their definitions used in this document.

This document might not contain information about basic UNIX commands and procedures such as shutting down the system, booting the system, and configuring devices. Refer to the following documents for this information:
