The Performance Reporting Manager has server, agent, and console layer components.
The server layer component should be installed on the same machine as the Sun Management Center server. Performance Reporting Manager version 3.5 provides three configurations:
Small - requires 5 Gbytes of free disk space
Medium - requires 12 Gbytes of free disk space
Large - requires 24 Gbytes of free disk space
Make sure that the Sun Management Center server machine has sufficient resources as described in Table 2–4.
The agent component must be installed on machines for which you want to collect performance, package, patch and hardware configuration data.
Make sure that each Sun Management Center agent machine has sufficient resources as described in Table 2–4.
The console component must be installed on each console machine. The console component updates menus and selections in the Sun Management Center console to support the Performance Reporting Manager.
To collect hardware configuration data, the agent and server machines should have the hardware-specific module installed.
The Performance Reporting Manager can be installed on each machine as follows:
If you are upgrading machines from Sun Management Center 3.0 to Sun Management Center 3.5, follow the instructions in Upgrading the Server. The Sun Management Center 3.5 upgrade process enables you to migrate the Sun Management Center data and your Performance Reporting Manager data.
Make sure you select the Performance Reporting Manager add-on Sun Management Center 3.5 during the installation process.
If you are performing a fresh install of Sun Management Center 3.5, make sure you select the Performance Reporting Manager add-on of Sun Management Center 3.5 during the installation process.
If you have already installed and set up Sun Management Center 3.5 on each of your machines, install and set up the Performance Reporting Manager as directed in Performance Reporting Manager Installation and Setup in the Sun Management Center 3.5 Performance Reporting Manager User's Guide.
During Sun Management Center 3.5 setup on the Sun Management Center server, you are prompted to enter the paths to three different directories for the configuration you have chosen. If possible, specify directories on three different file systems. This separation of directories reduces disk contention and improves performance.
