Issues and Workarounds

This section describes software issues and workarounds known at the time of this release that you might notice or that can affect the operation of Sun Management Center 4.0 Version 7 add-on software. These issues are in addition to those identified in the Sun Management Center Release Notes for your version of core software.

Physical Components Fan Table is Empty on Netra SPARC T3-1 Servers (CR 7019466)

On Netra SPARC T3-1 servers, Sun Management Center does not report fan and Tachometer information.

Workaround: System firmware version 8.0.5 or later resolves this issue. Install the firmware update.

Error Message: Unable to Launch the Application due to Unavailable Sunconnection.sun.com URL (CR 7029129)

Two messages are displayed: “Unable to launch the application” and “Error: could not load the file/URL specified.”

Workaround: None. You can ignore these messages. This does not affect Sun Management Center performance.

Netra SPARC T3-1 and Netra SPARC T4-1 Servers Indicator Table Reporting Incorrect Status for HDD Hot-plugged Event (CR 7020337)

When hot-plugging any hard disk drives in a Netra SPARC T3-1 and Netra SPARC T4-1 servers, incorrect status of the hot-plugged HDD may result. The status of the disk LEDs in the Indicators table continues to show a blue alarm even though the disk has been removed from the server.

Workaround: None.

Netra SPARC T3-1 and Netra SPARC T4-1 Servers Voltage/Current Sensors Reporting Incorrect Operational Status Following a Power Supply Fan Fault (CR 7020508)

On Netra SPARC T3-1and Netra SPARC T4-1 servers, during a Power Supply (PS) Fan fault, Sun Management Center reports Operational Status as "Not Present" in the Voltage/Current Sensor table.

Workaround: None. You can ignore the "Not Present" report in the Voltage/Current sensor table.

Netra SPARC T3-1 and Netra SPARC T4-1 Servers, Additional Information Field Reports Incorrect Fatal Threshold When the Power Supply is Removed (CR 7029653)

The additional information field in the Voltage Sensor table reports: “Lower fatal Threshold exceeded” when the Power Supply (PS) is removed from Netra SPARC T3-1 and Netra SPARC T4-1 servers.

Workaround: None. You can safely ignore this message.

Alarm Tab in Details Window Is Not in Sync With Agent (CR 6548517)

This issue occurs when an alarm is already available against an item (such as a processor status, a disk error count, or a particular sensor value) and a new alarm occurs on the same item. The Alarm tab does not update the new alarm unless there is a change in the status value.

Workaround: None

Console Falsely Displays Description Information (CR 6585734)

When you create a new object without specifying description information, the Sun Management Center Console’s Info tab displays a Description field that includes another existing object’s description information, rather than displaying a blank Description field.

Workaround: Ensure that you include information in the Description field when creating new objects.

XAUI Cards Are Not Listed in All Applicable Tables (CR 6604020 and 6971521)

XAUI card interfaces are listed in the Network Interfaces table, but are not included in the Expansion Cards table or Other Components table. Also, the Locations table lists a PCI-E slot as Empty when a XAUI card is plugged into that slot.

Workaround: None.

Console Does Not Display SAN (MPXIO) Disks on Certain Systems (CR 6655853)

Sun Management Center is unable to show SAN disk info for certain systems, such as the Sun Fire V440 server.

Workaround: None.

Processors Table Does Not Appear in Web Console (CR 6662409)

If you use the Web Console (browser based https://server_system:6789) to view an agent system, the Hardware -> Config Reader -> Device Information node might not expand to show the tables within that node (Processors, Media Devices, Network Interfaces, Indicators, and Other Devices). No triangle icon appears beside the Device Information node, so it cannot be expanded.

Workaround: Use the Java GUI Console instead of the Web Console.

System Table and Media Devices Table Show the Wrong Number of HDD (CR 6665401)

A Sun Netra T2000 server configured with two HDD incorrectly displays four HDD on the system table and media devices table. The server displays the two nonexistent HDD in unconfigured status.

Workaround: Treat HDD2 and HDD3 as nonexistent on a Sun Netra T2000 server configured with two HDD.

Sun Management Center Displays All Disks as Not Configured With Logical Domains Set Up (CR 6666611)

With logical domains set up, the Sun Management Center Media Devices table shows Not Configured as the Availability status for all disks. The physical path and type of the disk are also not displayed on the table. Without logical domains set up, the correct status (Running/Full power) is displayed. This issue occurs on Sun SPARC Enterprise T2000 servers.

Workaround: Use the cfgadm -al command to determine the status of the disks in a logical domains environment.

Sun Management Center Updates Spare/No-intr Processors Incorrectly on Logical Domains System (CR 6730867)

When a CPU is made no-intr or spare (via psradm -n and psradm -s), the status returned by the logical domains controller software is incorrect. When the CPU is no-intr, the returned status is online. When the CPU is spare, the returned status is offline.

Workaround: To determine the exact status of processors in a logical domains system, use the psrinfo command.

ILOM Should Convert PS Input Voltage Correctly Before Sending It (CR 6735038)

The Voltage Sensor table displays incorrect values for the input voltage of power supplies in SPARC T3 Series servers.

Workaround: Find the input voltage with this ILOM command:

-> show /SYS/PSx/V_IN value

Environmental Sensor Faults Not Reported Correctly at Threshold Values (CR 6738914)

When a temperature or voltage is a threshold value, a fault is not reported for a LowWarn (noncritical) value. A Lower non-critical threshold exceeded message is reported for a LowSoft (critical) value.

Workaround: None.

Processors Table Changes With Configuring Primary Domain (CR 6751418)

On a system with logical domains, Sun Management Center dynamically updates the Processors table while configuring the primary domain. The processors unallocated to the primary domain are forced to Unknown state in the configuration mode itself. Since Sun Management Center makes the changes dynamically and logical domains software makes the changes only on a subsequent power cycle, this leaves the two logical domains out of sync.

Workaround: Use the psrinfo command to check the correct state of processors in the configuration mode.

Network Interfaces Table Does Not Update When NIC Is Hot-Plugged (CR 6756972)

The Network Interfaces table is not updated when a network interface card (NIC) is hot-plugged into or out of a modular system.

Workaround: Restart the Sun Management Center agent after a NIC is hot-plugged to obtain a valid Network Interfaces table.

Information In Media Devices Table Is Incomplete for all T3 Series Servers and Netra SPARC T4-1 Server (CR 6963594)

For SPARC T3 Series servers, and the Netra SPARC T4-1 server, the Media Devices table does not display correct information on Availability (Configured/Not Configured) or Physical Path. In that table, the Operational Status information is correct. The Operational Status shown is correct if the device is Present or Not Present, along with a blue alarm if the device is not plugged in.

Workaround: None.

ILOM Sends Truncated Serial Numbers for FRUs (CR 6967351)

The serial numbers of FRUs are truncated to nine characters when ILOM sends the data via PCPDAQ to Sun Management Center. As a result, the Other Components table only lists the first nine characters of the serial number for each component (with the exception of the midplane of a server module).

Workaround: Obtain the complete serial number for a component with this ILOM CLI command.

The example below shows how to find the fru serial:

-> show component-NAC-name fru_serial_number

For example to find the serial number of the motherboard, type:

-> show /SYS/MB_ENV

/SYS/MB_ENV
		Targets:

   Properties:
       type = PROM
       fru_name = ES-SEG
       fru_description = Madrid ES Segment
       fru_manufacturer = 5030 CELESTICA CORP. SRIACHA CHONBURI TH
       fru_version = 01
       fru_part_number = 999-9999
       fru_serial_number = 0810SCA-1033SCA001

DIMM Serial Numbers Returned Incorrectly (CR 6981291)

When a DIMM serial number is reported in the Memory Modules table, a vendor string might be included in the serial number.

Workaround: Obtain the correct serial number for the DIMM with this ILOM CLI command:

-> show DIMM-NAC-name fru_serial_number
