Known Issues and Limitations

This section contains a list of the more important known issues at the time of the Portal Server, Mobile Access 6.2 software release. The list is categorized as follows:

Authentication

Cannot access Portal Server with Handspring Treo 180 device if Mobile Access is not installed on port 80. (#4911171)

Workaround
Install the Portal Server software on port 80.

Session timeouts during authentication with Handspring Treo 180 device are cached improperly. (#4928498)

Workaround
Turn off caching for the browser. To do so:

  1. Click Menu.
  2. Click Options.
  3. Click Blazer Preferences.
  4. Click Advanced.
  5. Set Cache Size to 0.

Portal Desktop

On the Layout Edit page, a Netscape Communicator 7.02 bug causes the Up and Down buttons to select channels that user does not select. (#4846694)

Workaround
Upgrade browser version to Netscape Communicator 7.1.

Accessing the login link from an anonymous authentication page on a WML device fails. (#4919061)

A translation error occurs on WML devices when login link is accessed from anonymous authentication page.

Workaround
Change the file path to wml/ and change the container to AnoJSPNativeContainer.

The number of characters displayed for Lotus Notes channels on a Nokia6310i device is limited. (#4952722)

The channel titles for the Lotus Notes Calendar, Lotus Notes Mail, and Lotus Notes Address Book channels are displayed as Lotus Notes only because space is not available for the full titles.

Workaround
Change the title for a Lotus Notes mail, address book, or calendar channel to an abbreviated name that will display on this device. To do this, follow these steps for each Lotus Notes channel:

  1. Log in to the Sun ONE Identity Server administration console as the administrator.
  2. By default, Identity Management is selected in the location pane and Organizations is selected in the Navigation Pane.

  3. From the View menu in the location pane, select Services.
  4. Click the arrow for Portal Desktop under Portal Server Configuration.
  5. The Portal Desktop page display in the pane on the right.

  6. Click the Channel and Container Management link for the Display Profile.
  7. The Channels page displays in the pane on the right.

  8. Under the Container Channels section, click on the Edit Properties link for the Lotus Notes channel.
  9. The channel’s property settings page is displayed.

  10. In the title text box, type in a name with fewer characters.

Response buffer does not handle pagination well in certain conditions. (#4965296)

When a user displays enough channels in the mobile Portal Desktop to require pagination, the rendering engine and response buffer paginate the AML document. If the page split happens in the boundary between page 1 and page 2, however, the response buffer does not rewrite the WML URL. The URL still reads as:

<do label="Options" name="Options" type="options"><go href="#options" sendreferer="true"/></do>

Workaround
Log in to the administration console and remove (or add) a few channels to the user’s mobile Portal Desktop so that pagination does not happen between two AML pages.

Selecting the Back option from a buffered choice list throws a server error. (#4962459)

When a user with many address book entries composes a message, the address book entries are displayed in multiple pages. When the user selects the More option to view the second page, a Back choice is displayed on top of the list. Selecting the Back choice throws a server error.

Workaround
Use the browser’s back button instead of the Back choice.

Calendar Application

Cannot update title/location/description to null (#4496628)

Workaround
Create a a new event or task with the null fields.

Cannot remove individual names from an event once they are invited. (#4891544)

Workaround
Use Calendar Express to remove the individuals, or create a new event and do not invite the individuals.

No option for removing Calendar reminders via phone is available. (#4780356)

Workaround
Use Calendar Express to disable the reminder, or ignore the email message.

Single events/tasks cannot be changed to repeating events/tasks, although if this is attempted, the events/tasks indicate that they are changed. (#4817327)

Workaround
Delete the single event/task and create a new event/task and specify it as recurring.

UserTimeZone is not mapped to the application-supported time zone. (#4931798)

Sun ONE Calendar Server software does not support all Java TimeZone objects.

Workaround
Select time zones that are supported by Calendar Server (for example: America/*, Asia/* and Africa/*.

Microsoft Exchange and Lotus Notes calendars display tasks with no due time 00:00 (#4941837)

Workaround
This is a display issue only. Workaround is not needed.

The calendar application always opens the user’s default calendar. (#4935591)

If the user selects a user-created calendar using an HTML browser, the calendar summary page shows the task and event count for it. If the user clicks the View calendar link with a mobile device, however, the user’s default calendar opens.

Workaround
Launch the calendar application using the default calendar and select the desired calendar from the calendar menu options.

Mail Application

Using the Compose option causes an error if none of the address book entries have email addresses. (#4506619 and #4950175)

When the user selects Compose to create an email message, a compile error occurs if none of the entries in the address book have email addresses. This occurs with rendering WML devices.

Workaround
Provide an email address for at least one entry in the address book.

Using the Address Book option may cause an error when a user has multiple address book accounts. (#4949726)

When a user selects the Address Book option when composing an email message using the Sun ONE mail application, the default address book is presented. The Address Book option launches the address book application that is first in alphabetical order in the configurations. This might not be the Sun ONE address book application.

Workaround
The portal administrator can change the address book configuration name of the Sun ONE address book so that it appears as the first choice for all users. To do this:

  1. Log in to the Sun ONE Identity Server administration console as the administrator.
  2. By default, Identity Management is selected in the location pane and Organizations is selected in the navigation pane.

  3. Click the Service Configuration tab.
  4. From the list of Service Names in the location pane, click the arrow for SSO Adapter.
  5. The SSO Adapter configurations display in the right pane.

  6. From the SSO Adapter Configurations list, highlight the configuration for the Sun ONE address book.
  7. The text appears in the text box so that you can change it.

  8. Change the configName value and click Add.
  9. The new configuration appears in the list.

  10. Highlight the original configuration and click Remove to delete it.
  11. Click Save.

Mail is sometimes displayed as HTML document (#4938743)

Email messages sent with HTML in the body are displayed with the HTML source.

Workaround
No workaround is available. However, one known problem is a mail application setting that forces all email messages to be sent as HTML. To preserve the original formatting of messages, change the setting to plain text.

The Views: Rule for Date Contains does not work. (#4885968)

Date search using a string format as dd/mm/yyyy in the search filter will not work.

Workaround
IMAP stores dates in this format: Wed, 04 Jun 2003 13:06:55 -700. Search filters using this format should work.

When a View name contains a trailing space, the View link does not display. (#4961619 and #4961620)

The View link does not display on a device if the View name ends with a space. Clicking Edit View results in a null pointer exception.

Workaround
Do not use leading or trailing spaces in view and rule names.
