Release Notes

This document provides late news about installation and use of Oracle’s Sun 10GbE XFP SR PCI Express card, the Sun Dual 10GbE XFP 2 SR PCI Express card, and the Sun Dual 10GbE SFP+ PCIe ExpressModule. It also contains information about the drivers and software for these network adapters.

Note - The Sun 10GbE XFP SR PCI Express Card User’s Guide and the Sun Dual 10GbE XFP 2 SR PCI Express Card User’s Guide have been combined. The new document, which describes both products, is called the Sun 10GbE XFP SR PCI Express Card and Sun Dual 10GbE 2 SR PCI Express Card User’s Guide.

This Product Update

Beginning with this update, the PCI Express cards and the ExpressModule support the Solaris Operating System. The first version of the Solaris OS to support these cards is Solaris 10 10/08.

Note - The ExpressModule (but not the Express cards) requires one or more patches for use on systems running Solaris. Please check for the latest patches to the ixgbe device driver at: http://support.oracle.com

Driver Software

An Intel web site provides information about driver software for each of these Sun products:

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=2914&lang=eng

http://downloadcenter.intel.com/Product_Filter.aspx?ProductID=3033&lang=eng

The user’s guide for each Sun card and ExpressModule includes instructions on downloading driver software from the Intel web site.

Known Issues

This section describes software bugs known at the time of this release that you might notice, or that can affect the operation of the Express cards or ExpressModule when used with some servers.

Pair of Dual-Port Cards Fail to Communicate When Configured With More Than One Teaming (CR 6661632)

In a system with two Sun Dual 10GbE XFP 2 SR PCI Express cards or two Sun Dual 10GbE SFP+ PCIe ExpressModules running Windows Server 2003, when each of the cards is teamed, the two cards fail to communicate.

Workaround: In a back-to-back connection, use only one team. Use the switch configuration for multiteaming.

Enabling the ExpressModule to Boot From the Network (CR 6718580)

The Sun Dual 10GbE SFP+ PCIe ExpressModule from Oracle now can support booting through the network.

To determine if your ExpressModule is ready to support booting through the network, refer to the label on the ExpressModule.

When your ExpressModule is ready to support booting from the network, you can make use of the instructions in the “Network Configuration” chapter of the Sun Dual 10GbE SFP+ PCIe ExpressModule User’s Guide.
