Cisco MDS 9134 Multilayer Fabric Switch Hardware Release Notes

This document contains important information about the Cisco MDS 9134 34-port Multilayer Fabric Switch hardware installed in Sun storage area networks (SANs).

Read this document so that you are aware of issues or requirements that can affect the installation and operation of the Cisco MDS 9134 switch in a Sun SAN.

Product Features

The Cisco MDS 9134 32-port Multilayer Fabric Switch provides up to 32 4-Gbps Fibre Channel ports and two 10-Gbps Fibre Channel ports in a one rack unit (1RU) chassis. A port activation license allows you to add an extra eight ports to the original 24-port configuration for a total of 32 4-Gbps ports. Another port activation license will allow you to activate the two 10-Gbps Fibre Channel ports for a total of 34 active ports.

The Cisco MDS 9134 switch can be used as a stand-alone switch or stacked together via copper X2 transceivers for up to 64 4-Gbps ports.



Note - Optical X2 transceivers can also be used to stack the Cisco MDS 9134 switches together.

Supported Software

This section describes the firmware and operating system requirements for the Cisco MDS 9134 switch.

Firmware Requirements

The Cisco MDS 9134 Hardware requires SAN OS rev 3.2(1a) (minimum) which is delivered as patch 126488-03 and available from SunSolveSM. See Downloading and Installing the Firmware for more information.

Operating System Requirements

The following operating systems running on hosts on the SAN are compatible with the Cisco MDS 9134 switch:

Downloading and Installing the Firmware

This section provides instructions for downloading and installing the Cisco MDS 9000 SAN-OS firmware.



Note - Download the latest version of the firmware to ensure proper compatibility.

Use the following procedure to retrieve Cisco MDS 9000 SAN-OS revision.

1. Access the SunSolve web site at:

http://sunsolve.sun.com

2. Accept the terms and conditions of the license agreement.

3. Click Patches and Updates under the Support category.

4. Type Patch ID 126488-xx under PatchFinder and click Find Patch.

Do not type the -xx revision number. PatchFinder automatically finds the latest patch.

5. Verify that you have retrieved the correct patch.

6. Print the README file that contains installation instructions and any special guidelines.

7. Download the patch by clicking on either HTTP or FTP in the following line:

Download Patch (nn,nnn,nnn bytes) HTTP FTP

8. When you have finished downloading the patch, install the patch by following the instructions in the patch README file.
