Auto Cleaning in Lxx Tape Libraries

When a drive requires cleaning and Auto Clean is enabled, the hand retrieves a cleaning cartridge from the cleaning cell, mounts the cartridge onto the drive, and returns the cartridge to the cleaning cells after the job is complete.

If Auto Clean is On, and you want to clean a drive before the drive requests a cleaning, you can manually load the correct cleaning cartridge into that drive. . See the Cleaning a drive topic for more information.

By viewing the cell map you will know if Auto Clean is enabled or not. If a cell labeled "Clean" is present on the lower left cell of map, then auto clean enabled. If the "Clean" cell is not present, then auto clean is disabled. You can also see the cleaning cartridge type by pointing the mouse over the "Clean" cell.

If Auto Clean is Off, a Clean Needed message appears on the status display of the operator panel when a drive requires cleaning. See the Cleaning a drive topic for more information.

Notes: Your library could contain more than one type of drives. The type of cleaning cartridge that is in the cleaning cell determines which types of drives can be automatically cleaned. The cleaning cartridge for LTO drives can be the standard or vendor specific. The DLT1 and SDLT drives use unique cleaning cartridges. The DLT 7000E and DLT 8000 drives share the same type of cleaning cartridge.
Some tape management software does not support the Auto Clean feature. Consult your system administrator before enabling this feature
