Auto Cleaning in Lxxx Tape Libraries

When a drive requires cleaning and Auto Clean is enabled, the hand retrieves a cleaning cartridge from the cleaning cell, mounts the cartridge onto the drive, and returns the cartridge to the cleaning cells after the job is complete.

By default, Auto Clean is On if a cleaning cartridge is present in the playground cell for a drive type. By viewing the playground cells in the cell map you will now if Auto Clean is enabled or not for a particular drive type.

If Auto Clean is On, and you want to clean a drive before the drive requests a cleaning, you can manually load the correct cleaning cartridge into that drive. See the Cleaning a drive topic for more information.

Notes: Your library could contain more than one type of drive. The type of cleaning cartridge that is in the playground cells determines which type of drive can be automatically cleaned.
