Ist ein SCSI-Plattenlaufwerk innerhalb eines Systemlaufwerks nicht als Teil eines physikalischen Pakets definiert, wird es automatisch als Standby-Laufwerk konfiguriert. Wenn ein SCSI-Plattenlaufwerk innerhalb eines Systemlaufwerks fehlschlägt, gehen Daten auf dem Standby-Laufwerk vielleicht im Zuge des Austausches des Standby-Geräts verloren. Beim Austauschverfahren wird das Standby-Laufwerk überschrieben, wenn das fehlerhafte Plattenlaufwerk mit einer Redundanzstufe (RAID-Stufen 1, 5 und 6) konfiguriert ist und es genauso groß ist wie das verfügbare Standby-Laufwerk.
D.h. auch wenn ein Standby-Laufwerk physikalisch angeschlossen ist, verweigert das System den Zugriff darauf und es können keine Daten verloren gehen.
Außer beim Standby-Neuaufbau von Plattenlaufwerken, der im Benutzerhandbuch des Herstellers beschrieben wird, unterstützen diese Controller kein Hot-Plugging.
Um Geräte hinzuzufügen bzw. zu entfernen, fahren Sie das System herunter und fügen Sie Geräte hinzu bzw. entfernen Sie welche. Führen Sie dann eine Neukonfiguration der HBA mit dem Konfigurationsdienstprogramm des Herstellers durch und führen Sie einen Neustart (b -r) des Systems durch.
Der Teriber unterstützt keine Bandlaufwerke mit variabler Länge bzw. die Multivolume-Sicherung und -Wiederherstellung für mit dem Controller verbundene Bandlaufwerke.
Wegen einer Einschränkung der Mylex-Firmware auf älteren Karten funktionieren SCSI-Band- und CD-ROM-Laufwerke nicht zuberlässig, wenn Sie mit einem Kanal verbunden sind, der auch SCSI-Festplatten enthält. Allerdings wurde diese Einschränkung bei neueren PCI SCSI Karten wie der DAC960PG und DAC960PJ noch nicht festgestellt. Die neueste Firmware für Mylex-Karten können Sie von der entsprechenden Website herunterladen.
Es kann keine Bandblockgröße verwendet werden, die größer als 32 KB ist. Um sicherzustellen, dass die SCSI-Geräteoperationen auf allen Karten korrekt ablaufen, verwenden Sie SCSI-Band- und CR-ROM-Laufwerke nur auf einem unbenutzten Kanal und mit einer Bandblockgröße von 32 KB.
Lange Bandbefehle (zum Löschen eines großen Bandes) schlagen vielleicht fehl, weil die Mylex-Controller ein Höchst-Timeout von einer Stunde für den Befehl besitzen.
Aktivieren Sie das Tag Queuing nur für SCSI-Plattenlaufwerke, die von der Mylex Corporation für die DAC960 Controller Familie offiziell gestestet und zertifiziert wurden. Deaktivieren Sie ansonsten das Tag Queuing, um Probleme zu vermeiden.
Der Befehl mt erase funktioniert zwar, kann aber die folgende Fehlermeldung ausgeben, wenn er das Ende eines Bands erreicht:
/dev/rmt/0 erase failed: I/O error
