QLogic SANbox 9000 Series Stackable Chassis Switch Hardware Release Notes

This document contains important information about the QLogic SANbox 9000 Series Stackable Chassis switch hardware installed in Sun storage area networks (SANs).

Read this document so that you are aware of issues or requirements that can impact the installation and operation of the SANbox 9000 in a Sun SAN.

Management Software Requirements

The SANbox 9000 can be managed by Enterprise Fabric Suite (EFS), Quicktools, or CLI.

If using EFS, see the section EFS Requirements to determine the correct EFS version to use with your installed firmware version. EFS downloading instructions can be found in the section Downloading EFS.

EFS Requirements

TABLE 1 summarizes the EFS and firmware version compatibility requirements for the SANbox 9000. See the section Downloading EFS for the EFS software downloading procedure.

1. Access the following QLogic web site:

2. Under the Download section, click Enterprise Fabric Suite 2007 - Download Center.

3. Type the CD serial number and click Continue.

4. Read and accept the license agreement.

5. Download the software.


Switch Requirements

This section describes some special requirements for the SANbox 9000.

Rackmounted SANbox Switch

When mounting the SANbox 9000 in an equipment rack, use the rail kit and mounting hardware supplied with the switch. For rack mounting procedures, refer to the rack mounting instructions packaged with the switch.

Firmware Requirements

The SANbox 9000 requires a minimum firmware version of 6.2.1.01. The patch ID for this firmware is 124900-01. However, if it is desired to utilize the fault tolerant and hyperstacking features, firmware version 6.6.0.15 is required. The patch ID for this firmware is 124900-02.

Installing the Switch Into an Existing Fabric

If you are installing a SANbox 9000 in an existing fabric, upgrade QLogic switches to the minimum firmware version 5.0.1.10. The patch ID for this firmware is 119553.



Note - If the existing fabric contains any SANbox 5000-series switches, it is recommended to install firmware version 6.7.0.07. The patch ID for this firmware is 128175.

Downloading and Installing Patches

The section that follows provides instructions for downloading and installing patches for the QLogic SANbox 9000, as well as other QLogic switches. See the sections Firmware Requirements and Installing the Switch Into an Existing Fabric for the required or recommended firmware versions and associated patch IDs.

1. Access the SunSolveSM web site at:

http://sunsolve.sun.com

2. Read and accept the terms and conditions of the License Agreement.

3. From the Support category, select Patches and Updates.

4. Under PatchFinder, type the patch ID and click Find Patch.

Do not type the -xx revision number. PatchFinder automatically finds the latest patch.

5. Verify that you have retrieved the correct patch.

6. Print the page.

Printing this page also prints the patch README file, which contains the installation instructions, special instructions, special guidelines, and notes.

7. Download the patch by clicking on either HTTP or FTP as shown in the following line:

Download Patch (nn,nnn,nnn bytes) HTTP FTP.

8. Click PatchFinder and repeat the process from Step 4 for each patch.

Patch Installation

When you are finished downloading all the patches, install the patches by following the instructions in each patch README file.
