Sun Computer Systems Manual Page Clusters and Packages

The SUNWCman cluster will install all the manual (man) pages for software on the Supplement CD. This provides a way to install the man pages on a system without installing the software they describe on that system.

Installing Sun Computer Systems Manual Pages

To install the Sun Computer Systems Manual Pages, follow these steps:

  1. Start CDE or OpenWindows.

  2. Insert the Supplement CD into your CD-ROM drive.

    The File Manager window is displayed.

  3. Open a command window and become superuser using the su command and superuser password.

  4. Enter the swmtool command at the # prompt:


    # /usr/sbin/swmtool
    

    The Admintool:Software window is displayed.

  5. Select Add from the Edit Menu.

    The Admintool:Set Source Media window is displayed.

  6. Type:


    # cd /cdrom/cdrom0/Product
    

    The Admintool:Add Software window is displayed.

  7. In the Admintool:Add Software window, select SMCC Manual Page Cluster 1.0.

  8. Click the Customize option.

    The Admintool:Customize Installation window is displayed.

  9. In the Admintool:Customize Installation window, click the Deselect All option.

  10. Click on the box beside Manual Page Cluster.

  11. In the Installation Directory window, enter the directory where you want the SMCC Manual Page Cluster installed.

    Leaving this blank will install the software in the /opt directory (default).


    Note -

    /opt is recommended as the home directory for the Sun Computer Systems Manual Page Cluster.


  12. Click OK.

  13. In the Admintool: Add Software window, click Add.

    The installation process should take a few minutes.

  14. Quit Admintool.

Using Sun Computer Systems Manual Pages

To view the man pages you have installed, use the man command as you would for the man pages installed as part of the Solaris installation. These additional man pages are also available in the Solaris on Sun Hardware Reference Manual Supplement in the Solaris 7 on Sun Hardware AnswerBook set.
