SunVTS Support for the Solaris OS on x86-Based Systems

Note - In this document these x86 related terms mean the following:
“x86” refers to the larger family of 64-bit and 32-bit x86 compatible products.
“x64” points out specific 64-bit information about AMD64 or EM64T systems.

Starting with the Solaris 10 OS, the SunVTS infrastructure and core diagnostics are available for x86 platforms. Starting with Solaris 10 3/05 HW1, SunVTS diagnostics for x86 platforms are supported in the AMD 64-bit environment for the SunVTS kernel (vtsk). All diagnostics are ported to 64-bit.

SunVTS is supported and tested on the following Sun x86 platforms:

Note - If you perform SunVTS on an unsupported platform, a warning message appears and SunVTS stops.

You must install the x86 version of the SunVTS packages to perform SunVTS on x86 platforms. The software packages use the same names as in the SPARC® environment. The SunVTS packages delivered separately for both x86 and SPARC Solaris platforms are as follows:

The SunVTS components available for x86 Solaris platforms are as follows.

Open Issues

For more information on issues listed in this section, contact Support Services.

Upgrading from SunVTS 6.4 Patch Set 2

Upgrading from SunVTS 6.4 patch set 1 and SunVTS 6.4 patch set 2 packages (installed with pkgadd) to SunVTS 6.4 patch set 3 using patch 137324-01 (SPARC platform) or 137325-01 (x86 platform) may result in an error message similar to the following during patchadd:

Version of package SUNWvts from directory SUNWvts in patch 137324-01 differs from the package installed on the system.

Completely remove the SunVTS packages and reinstall the SunVTS 6.4 patch set 3 packages (rather than using patches). If the SunVTS 6.4 patch set 1 and SunVTS 6.4 patch set 2 binaries were installed through patchadd, this problem does not occur.

Possible Installation Issue:
Install and Uninstall Using the Same Program

Use the same tool or utility for installation and removal of the SunVTS software. If you use pkgadd for installation, use pkgrm to uninstall; if you use Web Start for installation, use the Product Registry to uninstall.

Possible Runtime Issues for Both x86 and SPARC Platforms

The cryptotest should not be run on the Crypto Accelerator 6000 card along with other crypto devices in parallel. Limitation is only with Crypto Accelerator 6000.

Workaround: Run cryptotest on Crypto Accelerator 6000 when cryptotest is not running on any other devices.

CR 6667368: pfbtest fails with errors when stopped during test cycle.

CR 6668897: pfbtest core dumps with SIGSEGV.

CR 6671606: SunVTS 6.4ps2 Bootable CD -- BMC-Logical-Group Functional test bug with A4F, AF+SR, AF+Bar
