Sun Java Enterprise System 2005Q4 includes the appropriate version of J2SE.

If your system has J2SE 1.5 update 4 runtime environment installed without development tools, installer installs the development tools package while re-installing the Sun Java Enterprise System. This package contains several facilities required by the Sun Java Enterprise System. See the Java Enterprise System Installation Guide at http://docs.sun.com/app/docs/doc/819-2328 for details on how to determine the version of J2SE installed on your system and how to prepare your system prior to installing Java Enterprise System.

Accessibility Features for People With Disabilities

To obtain accessibility features that have been released since the publishing of this media, consult Section 508 product assessments available from Sun upon request to determine which versions are best suited for deploying accessible solutions. Updated versions of applications can be found at: http://sun.com/software/javaenterprisesystem/get.html.

For information on Sun's commitment to accessibility, visit http://sun.com/access.

Support for Netscape Security Services 3.9.5

Version 3.9.5 of the Netscape security libraries is included in Java Enterprise System. Directory Server, Directory Proxy and Administration Server depend on the version of the libraries installed under \<jes-install-dir>\share\lib\ while all other components that depend on these libraries depend on the newer version installed under \<jes-install-dir>\share\lib\jes.

Known Issues and Limitations

This section describes the known issues and limitations of Sun Java Enterprise System for Windows.

This section covers the following topics:

Free Space Requirement

Space in system folder Temp directory should be double the size of the installer (6237302), (6264346)

The computer's User's TEMP folder should have a free space double than the size of the installer. For example, if the installer zip size is 380 MB the default system drive's [C:\] Temp folder should have 380 x 2 = 760 MB free space and the same applies to the install directory too. This is a requirement for the install shield as well. This holds good even while trying to install in any other drive [D:\ or E:\]. It should have a free space of 780 MB or above.

Workaround

Temp folder can be changed by giving different value for TEMP & TMP variables in User Environment variable section which have default value as %USERPROFILE%\temp.

Note

Even if User's TEMP variable changes with different value other than %USERPROFILE%\temp, the system drive still requires the space to store .msi file for future reference, when installer is invoked from Add/Remove Program, for modify/remove option.

Configuration

During Configure Manually After Installation mode if blank space is present after the User ID or Password the configuration fails (6232650)

During the ‘Configure Manually After Installation’ mode if a blank space is present after the User ID and Password in the properties file of any of the product, the product will not get configured successfully.

Workaround

None.

In Configure Automatically During Installation mode, passwords are stored in plain text as passed to the configurator on windows (6247136)

If ‘Configure Automatically During Installation’ option is chosen during installation for evaluation purposes, note that the administrator password is persisted on the configuration file installer.properties in clear text. We recommend that you protect and backup this file.

Folder Names

Sun Java ES cannot be installed in the folders with folder names with space in between (6293986)

For example Program Files folder must be named as ProgramFiles without the space in between the two words.

Workaround

None.

Destination Folder Path

Destination folder path "/" displays incorrectly on zh_CN locale (6290945)

When you install Sun Java ES 3 on Windows 2000 AS, at the “Select destination folder path” panel, the default path is C:/Sun/". The "/" displays as RMB character in the Chinese language.

Workaround

None.

Installation

Panel for selection of web containers (WS/AS) is not available while installing Sun Java ES (6282934)

Sun Java ES web container dialog box shows up only when you do not select any of the web containers (Application Server or Web Server) in the Product selection panel during installation.

Workaround

None.

Dispatcher hangs during Configure Automatically During Installation in Microsoft Windows XP (6278215), Microsoft Windows 2003 (6336350)

Workaround

  1. Stop the start-up during installation using Ctrl+C and let the installation go through.
  2. After the installation is complete, start messaging server using start-msg on command line

Access Manager, Portal Server, UWC and DA used as a target Application Server virtual server, AppServer1 has to be used server (6287671)

Difference from Solaris: The instance name which is used for deployment in eval configuration is 'Appserver1'. This is different from Solaris where the deployment is done on 'server' instance.

Web Server is selected automatically and cannot uncheck (6355622)

If Application Server is selected, all the subcomponents get selected by default.

Workaround

If you do not need the load balancing features please unselect load balancer and this will result in automatic unselection of webserver also.

Sun Java ES 3 Windows customer unable to install/configure Sun Java ES if firewall is running (6262294)

Workaround

If there is any firewall running on the system, disable and stop firewall services and restart the system. Make sure that the services are disabled after restart. Then start the installation of Java ES. Once installation is done the services can be restarted.

The services can be disabled either from the client UI or from Windows Services applet.

Before any installation, check the registry entries if the JES product components have been installed and uninstalled (6370081)

Workaround

Check before the installation, whether the HKLM\SOFTWARE\Sun Microsystems\EntSys registry is present. If it is present, then remove the entry manually.

When installation is started from Windows folder, Message Queue is selected twice and Message Queue configuration hangs (6378426)

Workaround

Setup.bat which is in the root folder of the DVD needs to be used to invoke the installer. Using Windows\Setup.exe causes the Message Queue configuration to hang.

If you are using network install, you need to copy the Setup.bat and autorun.inf from root folder and the Windows folder in the same directory hierarchy.

Disk Space

Sun Java ES - MQ PE distro installation gives fatal error (6285856)

Sun Java ES installation gives fatal errors when installing in a drive with insufficient space and then switching to another drive with sufficient space.

Before you begin installation check that there is enough space in the drive in which you are going to install the product. Once you get the error message that there is insufficient memory space in the current drive, it is not possible to shift to another drive. The installer gives fatal error message and crashes.
