Who Should Use This Guide

This guide is intended for administrators responsible for installing and deploying the communication channels on the Portal Server 6.0 product or on the Portal Server 6.1 product.

What You Need to Know

Before you install the communication channels, you should be familiar with the following tools and procedures:

How This Guide is Organized

Appendix A, "SSO Adapter Templates and Configurations"

This appendix describes how to change the display of the communication channels on users’ portal desktops by creating and editing SSO Adapter templates and configurations.

Document Conventions Used in This Guide

This guide uses conventions for the Solaris operating system. If you are installing the communication channels on another UNIX operating system, use the file path equivalents for your operating system whenever Solaris file paths are shown.

Monospaced Font

The Monospaced Font typeface is used for any text that appears on the computer screen or text that you should type. It is also used for file names, distinguished names, functions, and examples.

Italicized Font

The Italicized Font typeface represents text that you enter using information that is unique to your installation. It is used for server directory paths and names. See Directory Path Variables subsequently for examples of directory path references that you will see in this guide.

Square Brackets [  ]

Square (or straight) brackets [ ] enclose optional parameters.

Command-Line Prompts

Command line prompts (% for a C-Shell or $ for a Korn or Bourne shell) are not specified in the examples. Depending on the operating system you are using, you will see different command line prompts. However, you should enter the command as it appears in this document unless specifically noted otherwise.

Directory Path Variables

Table 2 describes two common directory path variables—BaseDir and DSBaseDir—used in this document and indicates the names of the default installation directories—/opt or /usr/ldap—that the directory path variables usually represent. In this guide, the directory that a server is installed in is called a base directory.

When you issue commands referencing the base directory of a particular server, replace the BaseDir or DSBaseDir variables—used in this guide—with the actual name of the directory where the server was originally installed. Your site might not have accepted the default directories (/opt and /usr/ldap) when that server was originally installed. Therefore, use your site’s specific name for the base directory.

Table 2  Common Directory Path Variables

Variable

Default Directory

Description

BaseDir

/opt

The base directory represents the directory where Sun ONE Portal Server and Sun ONE Identity Server are installed.

DSBaseDir

/usr/ldap

The directory server base directory represents the directory where Sun ONE Directory Server is installed.
