B Removing an SBus Board

This appendix tells you how to remove an SBus board from the
SPARCstation 2 system unit.

You must remove any SBus board already installed in SBus slot 1 in order to install the primary memory board.

If the primary memory board is already installed and you wish to install the secondary memory board, you must first remove the primary board from the system unit.

First Steps

Before you remove an SBus board from the SPARCstation 2 system unit, you must read the following parts of this document and perform the procedure(s) in each:

    1. "Shutting Down the System," Chapter 1
    2. "Removing the System Cover," Appendix A
    3. "Attaching the Wrist Strap," Chapter 1

Removal Procedure

    1. Check that the green LED at the front of the chassis is not lit.
    2. Check that the fans are not running.
    3. Check that the system's power cord remains connected to the system and the wall outlet.
    4. Connect the anti-static wrist strap to yourself and the case of the power supply.
    5. Locate the SBus board you want to remove.
    6. Remove any external connectors attached to the SBus board.
    7. Remove the SBus board from the SBus slot.

Put your index fingers or thumbs underneath the corners of the SBus board where it is plugged into the slot. Pull up on the board.

Caution - The plastic SBus retainer is not a handle. Pulling on the SBus board retainer can cause it to break.
