Read this chapter only if your SPARCstation has either of these two configurations:
- Two 32-megabyte memory boards (installed as a set in SBus slot 1)
- 48 megabytes of SIMMs (installed in banks 0, 2, and 1)
- Two 32-megabyte memory boards (installed as a set in SBus slot 1)
- 64 megabytes of SIMMs (installed in banks 0, 2, 1, and 3)
SunOSTM 4.1.1 and SunOS 4.1.1 Rev B contain deficiencies which make the 112- megabyte or 128-megabyte SPARCstation 2 unable to boot SunOS from a CD-ROM (compact disc-read only memory) or cartridge tape. These deficiencies will be corrected in subsequent SunOS releases.
These deficiencies only affect MUNIX, which is only used during installation. Once the system has been installed, vmunix boots and runs normally without any kind of special remedial action.
Use the boot procedure that is appropriate for your system.
This chapter contains the procedures you must follow to boot your system from a SunOS 4.1.1 or SunOS 4.1.1 Rev B CD-ROM or SunOS 4.1.1 cartridge tape. Turn to the appropriate section for the type of software medium you are using.
