This manual contains service and user's information for the SunCD Plus(TM) drive, as well as installation information specific to the Desktop SunCD Plus Pack (DSPP) in which the drive is contained. The manual instructs you on the following tasks:
First read the "Safety Agency Compliance" section at the end of this preface. Then refer to the specific chapters to find the information you need. You must be a qualified service-trained maintenance provider to remove and replace a SunCD Plus drive, a power supply, or an I/O assembly.
This manual is designed so even non-technical users can connect the DSPP to their desktop system and use it's data retrieval capabilities. The manual also contains service information on how to remove and replace various components within the DSPP, but you should be trained to perform these functions before attempting these procedures.
After the hardware connections are made, a system administrator or someone familiar with disk drive software configuration should perform the necessary software steps (such as setting up and mounting file systems). The handbooks shipped with the DSPP describe these procedures.
This manual does not include most of the specific software commands or procedures associated with this product. Instead, it names software tasks and refers you to the appropriate operating system documentation, or to the software handbook that was shipped with your DSPP.
Some of the software tasks you may need to reference for include the following:
Refer to one or more of the following documents for descriptions of software commands and procedures:
The diagram below outlines the tasks you must complete to install a new peripheral. Each numbered item in the diagram represents a procedure, and the arrows point to the particular manual where these procedures are described.
Some tasks, such as shutting down the system, are composed of several commands. If all of these commands are not performed, your system will not be configured correctly. Be sure to perform the procedures as described in your software handbook.
After you perform these tasks, you will be ready to use the new peripheral with your system.
This manual uses a number of typographical conventions, described below:

Before beginning any procedure, read the instructions and cautions in this section. They explain how to work safely with the internal components on your system. The equivalent information, translated into French, German, and Spanish, can be found in Appendix A, "Compliance Statements."
For your protection, observe the following safety precautions when setting up your equipment:
The following symbols, which appear in this book, mean:
