Adding a Local Server Instance

To deploy modules or applications to the iPlanet Application Server, you must declare iPlanet Application Server Instances.

To create a local server instance:

  1. From the Runtime tab select the Server Registry node, the Installed Servers node, then the iPlanet Application Server 6.0 node.
  2. Right click on the Server Instances node and click Add a Local iPlanet Application Server Instance.
  3. From the iPlanet Application Server Properties window select each field to enter the appropriate information.

Admin Port Number Enter the port number of the local Administrative Server. During installation of the iPlanet Application Server this is set by default to port number 10817.

Admin User Name Enter the username for the local iPlanet Administration KAS Server. The default settings displayed are for the registered local server.

If you registered the local Application Server instance through the AdminTool, the iPlanet Integration Module polls the AdminTool registration to obtain the user name and displays it here as the default entry for you. If you haven't registered the local server, a message appears in the status bar prompting you to identify the Admin user name and password.

Admin User Password Enter the password for the local iPlanet Administrative KAS Server. The default settings displayed are for the registered local server.

Connector URL Enter the URL used in the JSPs or Servlets.

Host Name Enter the name of the server machine.

  4. Select the close box to dismiss the Properties window.

A node representing your local server appears under the Server Instances node in the Explorer.

  5. Right-click on the newly created local server node and select Set as Default to set the selected local server instance as the default instance to deploy to the iPlanet Application Server.

When you set the instance as default the J2EE Applications and Web Module subnodes under the Default Servers display changes to identify the default server instance.

  6. Use the Server Status menu option to start, stop, or restart the engines on the local server.

When the local server is stopped and started, there is a momentary delay for Forte to detect it.

  7. Select Delete if you want to delete the selected server instance.
  8. Follow the same steps to add another server instance.
