About Using Site-Wide LDAP Defaults for MAPI Clients

This recommended procedure is for administrators only. The goal is to save time by performing the LDAP configuration procedure once. The end result is a file containing a set of default configuration settings. You can then download this file when installing and configuring MAPI on Windows clients.

You can optionally create more than one default LDAP configuration file, for example, to accommodate heterogeneous client requirements.

Setting Up Site-Wide LDAP Defaults

  1. Insert the SIMS 3.5 client CD in the Windows machine.

  2. Click on the LDAP MAPI Provider button.
This displays the InstallShield Dialog box, which prompts you to install the LDAP component.
  3. Click on Yes in the InstallShield Dialog box.
  4. After installation is complete, display the Control Panel and double-click on the Mail icon.

  5. Click on the Add button.
This displays the Add Service to Profile window.
  6. Select MasterKey LDAP Service Provider and click on OK.
  7. Click on the Configuration File Tab.

  10. Enter the server name (full Server network address), check the default port number. Optionally enter your user name in Distinguished Name syntax and password in the corresponding text regions.

Note - The LDAP Bind User Name and Password are used to establish and test the LDAP connection only, not to register user data in the SIMS 3.5 directory services. You can leave the User Name field blank and connect anonymously. Or you can enter the User Name using the Distinguished Name (DN) syntax. The syntax is strictly observed.
  11. Click on the Test Connection button.

  12. Click on OK to dismiss the window. Repeat steps 9 and 10 until the connection is OK.
  13. To continue, click on the Search Bases tab.

  14. Click on the Browse button to select search keys in the correct syntax, or enter Simple Finder search parameters, pressing Help for syntax tips.

Note - You can add more search bases by selecting a second, third, and fourth token and specifying more or less focused domains (enterprise-wide, department-wide, international, etc.) To do so, you must first click on the Advanced tab and enable the Advanced Search Power Finder. Then follow the optional steps (15 through 17) below.
  15. Optional: Click on the Add button.

  16. Optional: Enter Power Finder search parameters, pressing Help for syntax tips
  17. Optional: Click on OK to add the search base.
This dismisses the Adding Power Finder Search Base window and re-displays the Search Bases Profile window. `
You have completed the minimum configuration steps. To change settings in the other configuration tabs, see on-line help or the third party documentation.
  18. Click on the Configuration File tab.

  19. Click on the Save This Configuration button and click on OK.
You are now ready to install and configure MAPI service providers on end-user Windows machines.
