About Installing the IMAP/SMTP MAPI Service Provider

The procedure below illustrates installation from the SIMS 3.5 client CD. You can also perform a netinstall.


 

Installing and Configuring the IMAP/SMTP MAPI Service Provider

  1. Insert the SIMS 3.5 client CD in the Windows machine.
 
 
  2. Click on the IMAP/SMTP MAPI Provider button.
  This displays the InstallShield Dialog box, which prompts you to install the IMAP/SMTP component.
  3. Click on Yes in the InstallShield Dialog box.
  4. After installation is complete, display the Control Panel and double-click on the Mail icon.
 
  5. Click on the Add button.
  This displays the Add Service to Profile window.
  6. Select the IMAPSP Folders and click on the OK button.
  7. Enter the SIMS 3.5 IMAP Server Name (fully qualified with DNS domain); change the Port Number (143=default) only if the SIMS 3.5 server uses a non-standard port.
  This is the SIMS 3.5 server that runs the mail service.
  8. Enter the client's username and password -- these must match the username attributes for same.
  This completes the required connection parameters. You can optionally change other connection parameters.
  9. Click on the OK button.
 
  10. Click on the Add button.
  This displays the Add Service to Profile window.
  11. Select the IMAPSP SMTP Transport and click on the OK button.
  12. Enter the SIMS 3.5 server machine name.
  13. Enter the client's e-mail return address and full name.
  14. Click on the Advanced tab.
 
  15. Optionally select a character set and HTML and/or RTF format support for client's e-mail.
  16. Make sure the settings are correct and click on the OK button.

This configures the SMTP server access and re-displays the MS Exchange Settings Properties window.


Note - If the client is not currently configured with an Exchange Server for mail service, then you must designate a personal folder as the default MAPI message store. The next steps in this procedure show you how.
  17. Click on the Add button.
 
  18. Select Personal Folders and click on the OK button.
 
  19. Enter a name for the Personal File retaining the .pst suffix, and click on the Open button.
 
  20. Optionally configure encryption and password parameters. Then click on the OK button.

This completes the personal folder configuration and re-displays the MS Exchange Settings Properties window.

  21. Click on the Delivery Tab.
 
  22. Select an incoming mail location.
  23. Click on the up and down settings to choose the order in which information services process recipient addresses.
  24. Click on the Apply button.
  This completes the IMAP/SMTP service configuration. Now you can configure the LDAP service on the client.
