Sun Web Access

SunTM Web Access is fully integrated browser-based software that provides access to the SIMS 3.5 E-mail and Name Directory services and to the Solaris Calendar server. Sun Web Access is integrated with the SIMS 3.5 server system and centrally administered, so installation involves little more than giving end users a URL to the Sun Web Access server. End users then open an Internet browser, enter the URL, and in this way launch Web Access.

End users can invoke and run Web Access from any Internet browser capable of displaying HTML 3.2 compliant documents with frames running on any platform, including Windows, Mac, OS/2, and DOS desktops. Web Access uses Java Web Server (JWS) 1.1 servlet technology from JavaSoft, Inc., and does not require a Java-enabled browser. Web Access does require a browser that supports "cookies"; cookie functionality must be enabled on any browser that uses Web Access.

Web Access integrates the following Internet-based message services:

MailView - An IMAP4/SMTP mail service
CalendarView - A versatile personal and workgroup scheduling tool
NameView - An enterprise- or department-wide name directory

Web Access is extensible for push-button links to site- or department-wide applications. You can also add secure Web Access by incorporating the Secure Socket Layer (SSL). A variety of post-install configuration options are available. To install and configure Web Access, see the Sun Internet Mail Server 3.5 Advanced Installation Guide.
