MAPI (Messaging Application Programming Interface) is a messaging architecture that enables applications to interact with multiple messaging systems across a variety of hardware platforms. The MAPI service providers bundled with the SIMS 3.5 provide connectivity between Microsoft Windows® clients and SIMS 3.5 services.
The MAPI service providers include the following components:
The IMAP and SMTP components |
An LDAP component |
DAO and ODBC components |
The MAPI service providers bundled with the SIMS 3.5 kit are third-party products. The providers are Control Data Corporation (CDC) for the IMAP and SMTP components and Boldon James, Ltd., for the LDAP component.
When you install and configure the SIMS 3.5 MAPI service providers on a Microsoft Windows® 95 or NT® client, Microsoft Exchange, Inbox, and Outlook users receive transparent access to the SIMS 3.5 mail service as well as support for HTML and Rich Text Format.
You install and configure MAPI service providers on a Microsoft Windows® client desktop using the SIMS 3.5 client CD.
