Installing Pure POP3/IMAP Proxy

SIMS 3.5 pure proxy is a stand-alone product that you must install on a server where SIMS is not installed. Pure proxy installs as a replicated slave to a remote master SIMS server.

Before installing, see Chapter "Preparing to Install SIMS 3.5," for guidelines regarding proxies installation.

To install pure proxy

  1. Follow steps 1 through 5 in Section "Running the Installation Script," under the heading "Installing SIMS 3.5," in the beginning of this chapter.
This starts the SIMS GUI Installation setup script as a non-root user.
  2. Select SIMS 3.5 Option from the main menu page as shown in FIGURE 6-2.
  3. Click Start.

  7. Specify server configurations, as shown in steps 11 through 14 in Section "Running the Installation Script."
  8. Click Apply to go to the summary page.
  9. Run Setup Install by following the directions explained in steps 17 through 24 in Section "Running the Installation Script."
To ensure that the directory schema in the slave (pure proxy) LDAP server is synchronized with the master (SIMS) LDAP server, you need to manually copy the schema files from the master (SIMS) server. These schema files are

/etc/opt/SUNWconn/ldap/current/slapd.conf
/etc/opt/SUNWconn/ldap/current/slapd.at.conf
/etc/opt/SUNWconn/ldap/current/slapd.oc.conf

This will ensure that all directories in the slave server will serve the same set of objects that are available on the master server. For procedure to copy the schema configuration files from SIMS master server to the proxy server see Sun Internet Mail Server 3.5 Administrator's Guide.

Directory replication ensures that the master and slave servers have the same replication configuration so that the updates work properly. Replication between servers with dissimilar schema may lead to unpredictable results.

To populate users to a proxy-based LDAP directory, see Chapter "Configuring SIMS as a Proxy Mail Access Server," in the Sun Internet Mail Server 3.5 Administrator's Guide.
