Release Notes for iPlanet Application Server Connector for CICS

These release notes contain important information relating to Version 6.0 SP2 release of iPlanet Application Server Connector for CICS. New features and enhancements, installation notes, known problems, and other late-breaking issues are addressed here. Read this document before you begin using iPlanet Application Server Connector for CICS.

What's New in iPlanet Application Server Connector for CICS, Version 6.0 SP2

The major changes in Version 6.0 SP2 are:

• Deleted the application table of the CICS components resulting in: (1) simplification of the installation procedure on the mainframe and (2) better performance.

• Added option to specify prefixes for components in CICS installation.

• CICS components can now be run on Windows2000 operating system.

• Added support for TcpAccess (Interlink) stack.

• Improved documentation for installation on a mainframe.

• Updated Solaris and NT post-installation documentation in the Administrator's Guide: ICU libraries.

• Included details on National Language Support in the Administrator's Guide.

Software and Hardware Requirements

The following table lists the hardware and software requirements for installing and running the CICS Enterprise Connector.

Component	Requirement
Computer and Operating System	One of the following systems: Intel Pentium microprocessor running Microsoft Windows NT Version 4.0 SP6 or Windows2000 (with iAS 6.0 SP3 only). Sun SPARC running Solaris 2.6 or Solaris 2.8.
Memory	Per CPU: 256 MB minimum, 512 MB recommended.
Available disk space	Total disk space: 200 MB on Windows NT and Windows2000, 400 MB on Solaris.
CD-ROM drive	CD-ROM drive.
Network software	TCP/IP for Windows and Solaris. or For SNA/APPC for Windows you must use one of the following: Windows NT: IBM eNetwork Personal Communications Version 4.3 and above. Windows2000: IBM eNetwork Personal Communications Version 5.0 and above.
Browser software	One of the following web browsers: Netscape Communicator 4.5 or later Microsoft Internet Explorer 4.0 (NT and Windows2000 )
CICS system	IBM CICS running on OS/390. The required releases are: MVS 5.2.2 or any release of OS/390 with current APARS. CICS ESA 4.1, or any release of CICS TS, with current APARS. iPlanet Application Server Enterprise Connector for CICS includes installation and configuration for both TCP/IP and SNA (APPC) protocols.
Other software	The following additional software is required: Webserver 6.0 SP1 for Win2000. In order to use the samples with Webserver 6.0 SP1 see the workaround to Problem 562501 (Win2K only). iPlanet Application Server 6.0 SP2 or SP3. SP3 is required in order to run Windows2000. Unified Integration Framework 6.0 SP2. The iPlanet Application Server and Unified Integration Framework must be installed prior to installing the CICS Enterprise connector.

Installation Notes

The mainframe installation has been significantly changed. The extent of these changes were significant enough so that a revised version of the Administrator's Guide was released.

The documentation for iPlanet Application Server Connector for CICS Version 6.0 SP2, dated August, 2001, is available both on the CD-ROM at the top level under the iasdocs directory and online in pdf format. Ignore the printed Administrative Guide documentation currently packaged with the product and use the documentation either in the iasdocs directory of the CD-ROM or download the most recent versions at the iPlanet site: http://docs.iplanet.com.

Installation of the product is as follows:

For Windows NT and Windows2000:

1. Load the iPlanet Application Server Connector for CICS Version 6.0 SP2 CD.

2. Unzip the file NT\inscics.zip from the CD into a temporary directory, then run the file setup.exe in the inscics directory.

3. Load the ICU (International Components for Unicode) Open Source Code for Windows NT and Solaris Version 1.6 CD.

4. Unzip the file: icu-NT.zip to the directory <iPlanet inst directory>\ias\APPS\bin

   Note	The ICU has been checked to validate that it also works with Windows2000, even though this platform is not noted on the label.

For Solaris:

1. Load the iPlanet Application Server Connector for CICS Version 6.0 SP2 CD.

2. Untar the file Solaris/inscics.tar from the CD-ROM into a temporary directory and then run the file setup in the inscics directory.

3. Load the ICU (International components for Unicode) Open Source Code for Windows NT and Solaris Version 1.6 CD.

4. Untar the file: icu-SOLARIS.tar to the directory <iPlanet inst directory>/ias/APPS/bin

The ICU (International Components for Unicode) Open Source Code for Windows NT and Solaris Version 1.6 CD contains the open source ICU libraries used for character set translation.

Upgrade from iAS Enterprise Connector for CICS 6.0 SP1 to SP2

In order to upgrade the iAS Enterprise Connector for CICS you must also upgrade the iPlanet Application Server 6.0 SP1 and the Unified Integrated Framework from SP1 to SP2.

You must have iPlanet Application Server 6.0 SP2, SP3, or SP4 installed before upgrading the UIF and Connector.

Refer to the Unified Integrated Framework 6.0 SP2 release notes for instruction on migrating from SP1.

To Upgrade the iAS Enterprise Connector for CICS 6.0 SP1 to SP2.

1. Export the repository. See Unified Integrated Framework 6.0 SP2 release notes.

2. Uninstall iAS Enterprise Connector for CICS 6.0 SP1.

3. Install iAS Enterprise Connector for CICS 6.0 SP2. You must also reinstall the mainframe components as explained in Chapter 3 - Installing the Mainframe Component , iPlanet Application Server Enterprise Connector for CICS Administrator's Guide, August, 2001.

4. If you had your own function object, import the XML file that you exported in Step 1.

Resolved Issues

The following issues have been resolved in the iPlanet Application Server Enterprise Connector for CICS Version 6.0 SP2 release:

Problem #532150

Conflict in the use of prefixes in the transaction name.

Resolved

The prefix is no longer hard coded and the customer can choose the transaction prefix.

Problem #536302

Inadequate documentation of installation on mainframe.

Resolved

The chapters in the Administrator's Guide dealing with installation on the mainframe were extensively reviewed and rewritten. An updated Administrator's Guide was included as a PDF file in the build and also posted to the iPlanet web site.

Problem 562501 (Win2K only)

The samples do not work when using Webserver 6.0 SP1.

Workaround

In order to use the samples with Webserver 6.0 SP1:

1. Install the connector as explained in the Administrator's Guide.

2. Copy the directory cicsSamples

   from:\<iASInstallDir>\iPlanet\ias6\ias\APPS\adapters\cics\htmldocs

   to: \<iASInstallDir>\iPlanet\Servers\docs

Known Problems and Limitations

The following problems have been identified and workaround solutions developed.

Problem 546538

"$" character is not acceptable in the CICS connector

Workaround

The "$" character cannot be used as a character in any of the datasource fields in the Management Console.

Problem 519215

Documentation on User Management - Entity Mapping

Workaround

You need to create Entity Mappings in the Management Console for each new datasource that you create.

Problem 4540987

Uninstaller removes common files in multi-connector installation .

Workaround

When uninstalling one of several connectors, such as R/3, PeopleSoft, Tuxedo or CICS, the common directories <iAS InstallDir>/ias/APPS/console, <iASInstallDir>/ias/APPS/ecu and files from the bin directory may be deleted. It is necessary to copy these directories back to APPS directory, while maintaining the same sub-directories structure, from <iASInstallDir>/ias/APPS/UIFbackup for the connectors to function correctly. All files files that are present in the UIFBackup directory need to be copied to the <iASInstallDir>/ias/APPS.
